Kenny Macintyre makes incredible Beaton claim

Kenny Macintyre has claimed that John Beaton was given full marks for his VAR performance at the Hearts v Celtic match!

Brendan Rodgers’ use of the word incompetence in his post-match interviews landed the Irishman with a Notice of Complaint from the SFA which resulted in a one match dug-out ban which will be served tomorrow at Livingston.

Despite being found guilty Rodgers has no regrets about his comments, there has been no apology with Celtic issuing a statement about their disappointment over the verdict.

Beaton prompted Don Robertson to review incidents that led to Yang Hyun-jun being sent off and Hearts getting a penalty from which they took the lead.

There wasn’t a single pundit, not even Kris Boyd willing to justify the penalty decision but it seems that the SFA were full of praise for the performance of the match officials.

Macintyre made a brief appearance on Off The Ball today ahead of hosting Sportsound with The Sun listening in:

Asked about how VAR and the inconsistency of it’s implementation was affecting the Scottish game, MacIntyre said: “Unfortunately it is affecting some big calls.

“For example, in the game you are talking about, at Tynecastle, the one that Brendan Rodgers was hauled in front of the disciplinary board for, I am told that the VAR that day got full marks for his decisions.”

Beaton was put in charge of the Aberdeen v Kilmarnock Scottish Cup quarter-final the week after his VAR performance at Tynecastle with a ridiculous booking for Andrew Shinnie leaving the Dons skipper suspended for next month’s semi final.

Today Beaton was in charge of the Championship match between Partick Thistle and Inverness Caley Thistle and is the favourite to be put in charge of next Sunday’s Glasgow Derby at Ibrox.

Robertson will referee Celtic’s match at Livingston, his first sent his dreadful performance at Tynecastle at the start of the month. Alan Muir will be on VAR duty with any red cards for Celtic players putting them out of next week’s match at Ibrox.
