Scotland’s broadcasters were on the brink of meltdown as they covered Celtic’s dramatic win at Motherwell.
With the last kick of the ball Kelechi Iheanacho slotted away a penalty to give Celtic a 3-2 win at Fir Park.
It was certainly dramatic but also fair.
Deep down the pundits and presenters on Radio Clyde and BBC Scotland knew that the correct decision had been made.
But with Celtic still in the title race it was the most bitter of pills for Kenny MacIntyre, Tom English and Hugh Keevins to swallow.
All three have been fully on board the Jambo bandwagon after Danny Rohl spectacularly imploded at the first sign of pressure.
MacIntyre, English and Keevins have no great love for Hearts. They do all detest Celtic, Celtic success and most of all Celtic supporters.
Social media has opened them up to personal contact. Their every comment and clip can be thrown back in their faces.
News is no longer tomorrow’s chip wrappers.
When Alex Rae is the voice of reason in your studio there is something far wrong.
The Partick Thistle assistant manager knew that the decision to award the hoops a penalty was correct.
BROADCASTING HELL AS CELTIC KEEP SPFL TITLE RACE ALIVE
Having been on air from 7pm both Super Scoreboard and Sportsound were living through the full events from Tynecastle and Fir Park.
During the first half at Motherwell Sky Sports showed an As It Stands League table with a C against Hearts.
Before Daizen Maeda equalised Hearts were four points clear with just one match left to play.
There was still time for Motherwell ‘keeper Calum Ward to wipe out Maeda before the break. That incident seemed to escape the post match analysis.
The ebb and flow of the evening was classic.
Seconds after Liam Gordon equalised for Motherwell Blair Spittal put Hearts 3-0 up at home to Falkirk.
At that point Martin O’Neill’s side would have to pick themselves off the floor and beat Hearts by three goals on Saturday.
The media dream of Derek McInnes winning the SPFL title at Celtic Park was within touching distance.
And that is what Sam Nicholson of Motherwell did when a late Celtic throw in was aimed towards Auston Trusty.
Nicholson, a former Hearts youth team player backtracked, jumped, raised his elbow and arm as Trusty looked to connect with the ball.
BEATON MISSES OUT ON CELTIC PENALTY
Naturally John Beaton saw nothing wrong in the clash but play was halted to check on the head knock to the Celtic defender.
Then news emerged that the challenge was being reviewed. Sky Sports showed replays.
Was it a handball, was it an elbow into Trusty’s head? It was certainly a penalty.

When Andrew Dallas and Beaton decide that Celtic are due a stoppage time penalty you can be sure that it is of the stonewall variety.
Unless you are on the BBC Scotland payroll or a bitter old man that hasn’t come to terms with the end of the Old Firm.
Derek McInnes and Kris Boyd are providing the anger. Fed to them by the moon-howlers from the darkest corners of Ibrox social media.
Scoreboard and Sportsound will lap up those views and provide them with legitimacy.
Thanks to social media it can clearly ben seen that the right decision was made. Regardless of how painful it feels for broadcasters.
For years we’ve heard their excitement and anticipation for a final day title shoot-out.
Now that they have one, at Celtic Park on Sunday enthusiasm seems to be tailing off.

Absolutely right! 🙂
But add Sky Sports to “Scoreboard and Sportsound will lap up those views and provide them with legitimacy.”
When did you ever see Elidh Barbour ( married to former Sevco Marvin? ) interrupt Bigot Boyd on one of his rants or provide evidence to the contrary of his Bigoted statements? Shocking. Absolutely shameful

Shocking commentary from this lot- can barely hide their contempt for us- absolutely everyone to a man wants to see us fail, let’s hope they choke on their own bile, even Darren O’Dea didn’t have the cojones to stick up for us- if they didn’t agree with the hand ball they could clearly see the elbow, typical SMSM
