Chris Sutton was in his pomp as he shared the Sky Sports post-mortem from Tynecastle with Kris Boyd.
Eilidh Barbour and John Robertson were props in the studio as the 2-1 defeat for Danny Rohl’s side was dissected.
Sutton piled in on the Ibrox flops to such an extent that Boyd had no defence to put up for his former club.
It was no surprise that Sutton decided to highlight the non contribution of James Tavernier. Captain Disappointed was posted missing as his side lost another cup final.
Rohl thought that he was being clever by describing the post-split fixtures as five cup finals.
After losing two of those cup finals not even their biggest cheerleader can put up a case with Hearts seven points ahead.
Tavernier had another shocker. A passenger at both goals.
When it comes to free-kicks, corners and throw-ins he is all over it. All about me.
For the first Hearts goal he watched the ball ping off the post before Stephen Kingsley calmly side-footed the ball into the net.
Hearts second goal should have been blocked out at the corner flag. The ball was fired in, deflecting off Tavernier’s calf for Lawrence Shankland to drill past Super Jack Butland.
As he looked around blaming his team-mates every fan in Scotland was laughing out at the Ibrox skipper.
Going out with a whimper. Despite all the fake records bestowed on him by the fawning Scottish media.
SUTTON AND TAVERNIER- THE ONE SIDED JOUST
Sutton first called Tavernier out ahead of the 2019 League Cup Final.
He described the former MK Dons and Wigan ace as a serial loser. There was outrage at the time. So unfair. You don’t describe the Ibrox captain in those terms.
With Celtic leading 1-0 at Hampden Jeremy Frimpong was sent off. Penalty awarded. Rather than take the penalty Tavernier handed the ball to Alfredo Morelos.
Fraser Forster saved the penalty. Tavernier had to console Ryan Jack as he added another runners-up medal to his collection.
Sutton has taken occasional pot shots at Tavernier since.
There was no sugar-coated tribute when the club captain announced that he was leaving. Two defeats on Sutton didn’t miss Captain Disappointed as he lapped up another epic failure.
The Hearts goal sum up the Rangers captain’s time at the club.
He has a heart the size of a PEA, he really does.
He is bad on both goals. He should react at the first, smell the danger and block it – he doesn’t.
Then he is so lax at the second and he has killed his team.
Tavernier wasn’t offered a new contract. After 11 years there was no testimonial of thanks. Next Wednesday he’ll play at Ibrox for the last time. It is doubtful if there will be 10,000 fans staying behind for a lap of ‘honour’.
Unlike Boyd Sutton isn’t shy about about saying what he thinks. He has criticised Celtic all season. After the 1-0 win over St Mirren three weeks ago he dismissed Celtic’s title chances.
With three matches left to play, all within seven days Celtic are still in the conversation.
Sutton has kept a safe distance from Celtic. Even with Martin O’Neill back as manager he hasn’t gone into cheerleader mode for his former boss.
Sky Sports have still to announce the fixtures that they’ll be covering over the final two rounds of fixtures.
Wherever they go they won’t be covering a title party hosted by Danny Rohl and Tavernier.
