Ibrox Fans Turn On Andrew Cavenagh

The honeymoon is well and truly over for Ibrox Chairman Andrew Cavenagh.

Watching Derek McInnes lead his side to a 2-1 defeat away to Jagiellonia was a sobering experience for even the most gullible of bears.

Memories of winning the Close Season Cup and Transfer Window Trophy are fading fast as the pesky football returns.

McInnes is the third manager to be appointed under the Cavenagh regime. It is becoming obvious that the Soccer Guy hasn’t a clue about what he is doing at Ibrox.

In February of last year the Daily Record were cheerleaders to the multi-billion takeover from the San Francisco 49ers.

Paul Murray, the veteran blazer chaser had acted as the match maker between Cavenagh and the existing shareholders.

Dave King and Douglas Park were delighted to get something back on their worthless shares.

When the deal was completed there was no sign of the San Francisco 49ers, not even 48ers Enterprises.

Just plain old Andy Cavenagh.

A mystery man from the USA with no track record in soccer but welcomed as the new messiah.

Apparently he made millions of billions in health care in the USA.

He was going to bring cutting edge analysis to apply to recruitment, fitness and tactics to revolutionise Scottish football.

All the usual stuff without the bit about being a billionaire from Motherwell.

It is hardly a surprise that Ibrox fans aren’t capable of critical thought.

When you are brought up with the most misplaced superiority complex it is impossible to give way to reality.

Cavenagh has no track record on anything.

In soccer he goes for mediocrity.

From Russell Martin to McInnes via Danny Rohl.

At a real push those three are English Championship level managers.

Lumber them with a support that believe they are watching the world’s most successful club and the cocktail is explosive.

The managerial cycle used to run for 12 months.

Martin lasted 123 days including the whole pre-season.

Rohl was in charge for eight months.

There is now a realistic debate over whether or not McInnes will last till Halloween.

A Staunch Recruitment policy only takes you so far. At some point the football has to start.

McInnes is bamboozled by the reality of his dream job.

Over two matches he has switched captain and made five half-time substitutions.

Dundee United and Jagiellonia are bang average opponents.

They don’t spend £6m on signing the captain of Dinamo Zagreb.

But their managers know how to set up a football team. Play to your strengths and exploit the weaknesses of your opponents.

IBROX CHIEFS ABOUT TO FEEL THE PRESSURE

Chairman Cavenagh has let the soccer guys get on with things at Ibrox. Various CEO’s Chairmen and Sporting Directors. Recruitment experts with no background or track record of delivering success.

With each significant change Cavenagh delivers reassuring sound-bites like a wise Uncle from Disneyland.

The fawning media pack hang on his every word. Reassured for themselves as much as for the loyal bears.

Dreaming that the years of misery are about to end.

It looks ominous for McInnes even though he is one of their own.

When the howling for change comes next it won’t be confined to the dug-out.

Another season of failure will have fingers pointed at the Directors Box.

In sport in particular there is a saying that ‘ they very rarely come back as good ‘ as before …as from a chronic injury or as another entity when a football club is ordered into liquidation by a High Court Judge in Scotland ! And yet after the resurrection of the football clumpany from the ashes everyone who supports the tribute act demand and urge forcefully winning ways every week as if it’s one long continuous existence …or else !
They don’t get it and I mean the loyal staunch SMSM in particular who are the cheerleaders in all of the winning demands .
It’s not the same club as before …it never can be ! They cannot play and have some success as previously because that old club does not exist …it’s gone forever !
No matter who buys the shares or the clumpany you cannot be like before . Nothing is ever the same after extinction . So keep to buying plasters and bandages and plastic gloves Mr Cavenagh !
You will get a far better return for your dough and success than in Ibroxland. That’s a Cinch …oops!
