Have Celtic banned BBC Scotland?

There appeared to be a marked absence of BBC voices at Martin O’Neill’s media conference to preview Celtic’s match with Livingston.

The high pitched nonsense of Jonathan Sutherland and David Currie wasn’t heard.

And there was no long winded, going round the houses questions posed by Kheredine Idessane.

Tuesday’s media conference was strictly by invite only which explains why no Celtic fan media outlets were in the room.

The SPFL has a contract with the BBC that gives them exclusive interviews pre and post match with club managers.

The day before, general media conference is entirely at the discretion of the hosting club.

It seems that Michael Nicholson’s plans for greater communications ended with the launch of a bog standard Celtic app.

The Celtic CEO has still to grace the app, sharing his insights and vision for the club.

BBC SCOTLAND- TRUSTED BY CELTIC

BBC Scotland are long standing media partners of Celtic.

Chris McLaughlin could always be called on to deliver the party line while Peter Lawwell was CEO.

McLaughlin shared the news that Celtic were a stand alone club while Lawwell went into panic mode at the thought of the liquidation of his Old Firm business partners.

That cost relationship probably helped reassure Brian Wilson into making an appearance on The Sunday Show. A programme renowned for the fawning treatment on Anas Sarwar.

On Sunday morning the Celtic Chairman got a very rude surprise.

As he defended the links between his comrades and the disgraced Peter Mandelson Gary Robertson went seriously off script.

Celtic, and one particular issue wasn’t on the agenda when Wilson accepted the call to defend his Labour Party chums.

Wilson was very rusty on Sunday morning.

He is no longer a street-wise campaigner. He is out of touch with the modern ways and the attitude of BBC Scotland to all things Celtic.

BRIAN WILSON AMBUSHED

Robertson tried three times to get Wilson talking about Celtic Boys Club. One mention of Jimmy Saville, Stuart Hall, Rolf Harris or Huw Edwards would have forced the BBC presenter to abandon that line of questioning.

Wilson was furious. After 20 years as a Celtic NED the concept of accountability is totally alien to him.

At Tuesday’s media conference the opening questions to Martin O’Neill were from Adam BInnie.

He does put in some shifts for BBC Scotland but on this occasion he was leading for Sky Sports News.

Next to ask questions was Gabriel Antonizi of Radio Clyde.

There were no silly questions from Currie or Sutherland. None of the banter from Kenny Macintyre’s WATP Group chat.

The BBC Scotland website did cover the O’Neill conference but with no name against it.

With their vast staff and budget the state broadcaster should have a name against their Celtic content. What have they got to hide?
