Campaign launched as Celtic fans set out to Sack The Board II

Celtic fans came together in unprecedented numbers last night to begin the campaign for change at the very top of the club.

Representatives of the three major supporters organisations were joined by individual supporters clubs and fan media to discuss the way forward.

Anger at the weekend statement from the club was palpable but overall there was feeling of enthusiasm for what is expected to be a lengthy fan campaign.

An online survey involving over 38,000 fans resulted in more than 98% of them calling for Michael Nicholson, Peter Lawwell and Chris McKay to be removed from their posts which is expected to drain the club of close to £2m when the 2025 accounts are published this month.

None of the decisions fans are now facing are going to be easy.

Withdrawing from the Home Ticket Cup Scheme or passing up tickets for the Europa League are tough choices fans will have to make.

That was recognised by everyone at the meeting along with the need for unity by respecting whatever choices individual fans make.

We heard of supporters clubs split down the middle on both issues. And also of strong support both for and against boycotting games.

There should be no criticisms levelled at fans over how they choose to proceed on these fronts as the need for a united front is critical.

The opening salvo against the Celtic board could well come on Sunday when the Sky cameras roll into Kilmarnock.

Going forward a steering committee will be established for what will be a campaign to build up momentum and make the pressure felt in the boardroom.

Sitting back is no longer an option, the next transfer window will be no better and fans will continue to be ignored, that much is clear to everyone.

The meeting heard a truly shocking account of one supporters group’s meeting with Celtic on Friday.

Michael Nicholson is not only clearly failing in his role as CEO, he can’t even put on a decent impression of capable leader.

Quite how anyone at Celtic came away from that Friday meeting and claimed to have garnered any sort of backing is frankly scary.

For the beginning of a campaign, Wednesday nights meeting couldn’t have gone much better and its a huge credit to North Curve Celtic to have organised everything on such short notice.

The group managed to collate the views of 38,000 fans and bring together representatives of tens of thousands of Celtic fans in just a few days.

Which puts the clubs pathetic attempts at fan engagement in perspective.

“Football without fans is nothing” is engraved on the statue of the great Jock Stein at the entrance to Celtic Park.

Celtic do like to call on and use iconic Stein quotes when it comes to rallying the #celticfamily to part with more cash to boost the bank balance resulting in greater payments of Corporation Tax to HMRC.

The Celtic board and CEO are about to be reminded of just how right Big Jock was.
