Michael Stewart seemed to be caught in off-air mode as he discussed the action from Tynecastle today on the opening weekend of the SPFL season with a reference to Todd Cantwell quickly trending on social media.
The former Hearts midfielder is one of the few pundits on Radio Scotland that is worth listening to although alongside Tom English, Kenny Macintyre and Lee McCulloch that isn’t much of a benchmark.
Missing from Phil Clement’s squad today was the man who was sending out Shushburgers from Tynecastle last season as he celebrated scoring in a 3-3 draw for the Premiership runners up.
It seems that during pre-season training the strained relationship between Clement and Todd Cantwell reached breaking point with the former Norwich starlet deciding that it was time for his next challenge.
There has been zero interest shown in TikTok even through his agent has been contacting randoms on social media to see if they will match the wages being paid at Ibrox, any move would involve an undisclosed fee.
Scottish football is well and truly back. Michael Stewart calling Cantwell a bit of a prick on BBC Scotland Radio 😂 pic.twitter.com/ItytR0p4UT

Listening again it seems that Stewart got a bit tongue tied, realised what he was close to saying he tried to skip around it with the outcome being inconclusive.
Stewart has been the target for many campaigns by Ibrox fans, concerned that he has the independence of thought that he is clearly missing from others employed by Radio Scotland such as Kenny Miller, McCulloch, Billy Dodds and Steven Thompson.
Those campaigns have clearly halted the progress of the former Scotland and Manchester United midfielder.
About eight years ago he co-presented Sportscene with Thompson, while the dull as dishwater ‘St Mirren’ fan is in with the bricks with the state broadcaster Stewart is used fairly sparingly.
Despite being officially on the Transfer List there are no credible reports of interest in Cantwell.

I think it was going to be prick, and mid sentence, he tried to say prat.
Almost became “prit”.— Brian Russell (@brianrussell73) August 3, 2024
Did Michael Stewart just call Cantwell “a bit of a prick” on Radio Scotland?

Michael Stewart just referred to Todd Cantwell as ‘if he’s a bit of a prick’ on Radio Scotland. The rest just laughed it off. Is this ok for the BBC now? @BBCSportsound
