Respected source claims that Celtic have tabled winger bid

Celtic are reported to have put in a bid to Rapid Vienna for Nicolas Kuhn.

The claim comes from Mark Hendry of Football Scotland who has been close to a number of Celtic related stories since he got the exclusive on interest in Alexandro Bernabei from Lanus in the summer of 2022.

Strangely no fee is mentioned in the report but at this time of the year there are plenty of claims about clubs showing interest, keeping tabs and watching closely but there is more substance to this report which has appeared in Football Scotland tonight:

Celtic have tabled their first offer for Rapid Vienna winger Nicolas Kuhn.

The Hoops have been keeping a close eye on the 24-year-old German this season as Brendan Rodgers looks to bolster his ranks and add strength in the wide areas for the title run-in.

The versatile Kuhn can also play as a striker and has impressed this term in the Austrian Bundesliga with seven assists and three goals from 22 appearances in all competitions.

Football Scotland understands the offer is just short of what Vienna are looking for but the Scottish Premiership leaders are preparing to return with a second bid in the hopes of landing their man.

It is also understood that Vienna have already begun hunting for a replacement for the attacking player as they expect to lose him this month.

Kuhn has spent time at Ajax and Bayern Munich but it is only since moving to Rapid Vienna in July 2022, signing a four year contract.

Although he is 24-year-old he is still relatively inexperienced with Rapid providing the winger with sustained first team football.

During the summer Celtic brought in Marco Tilio, Yang Hyun Jun and Luis Palma with only the Honduran making a positive impact on the first team. Tilio has been linked with a return to Australia this month.

Under Ange Postecoglou there was a real emphasis on wing play with two replacement wingers coming off the bench between 60 and 70 minutes in most matches.

That option hasn’t really been available to Rodgers this season but with Liel Abada returning from injury and Kuhn possibly arriving there should be increased quality and options down the flanks.

After losing to Lazio and exiting the Champions League Rodgers went on record as wanting to bring in four quality, first team ready players when he returned to the club.

Coming from a respected European league with Ajax and Bayern Munich on his CV Kuhn will be expected to make a quick impact as the season resumes with two trophies to play for.
