Mark Hendry sets Celtic transfer expectations

Mark Hendry is expecting Celtic to bring in Nicolas Kuhn from Rapid Vienna and two others during the January transfer window.

It has been a slow start to business at Celtic with some fans starting to get concerned with a significant clear out expected of a bloated squad with Brendan Rodgers on record as looking for four quality additions to his squad.

That observation was made in June when he returned to the club then aired in public following the November defeat to Lazio that ended Celtic’s interest in the Champions League.

European progress was thought to have been one of the big attractions that brought Rodgers back to Glasgow but despite the improved points total it was hard to see improvement with the dead runner win over Feyenoord little more than a face saver.

Expectations for January arrivals intensified following back-to-back defeats in the SPFL to Kilmarnock and Hearts but according to a tweet from Hendry of Football Scotland there isn’t likely to be much activity in the remainder of this month.

Hendry demonstrated his credentials by being first to reveal Celtic’s interest in Alexandro Bernabei (10 June 2022), ironically a left-back is on the January list with the former Lanus defender yet to start a competitive match this season.

A back-up or better still an improvement on Greg Taylor seems a logical move, an injury to the former Kilmarnock man would probably result in Liam Scales switching to left-back with another pairing tried in central defence.

Until Oh Hyeon-gyu and Daizen Maeda return from the Asian Cup Kyogo Furuhashi is Celtic’s only striking option.

Away matches at Aberdeen and Hibs in early February will look a little easier if another quality striker arrives this month with Celtic fans keeping an eye on Hendry for signs of incoming transfer business.
