Six clubs named in ‘race for £5m Ibrox star’

Six clubs are reported to be involved in the £5m race to sign Glen Kamara.

That is the claim tonight from Chris Jack of The Herald/Glasgow Times, the man that revealed the £10m price tag to Chinese clubs interested in Alfredo Morelos in January 2018.

The Chinese bid never quite landed, a fee of Dembele Dollars was demanded, 20 plus clubs were linked with the chunky Colombian before he quit Ibrox in May as a free agents.

With most European leagues starting up in the next fortnight Morelos remains without a club- much like Kamara.

Steven Gerrard once discussed interest from Juventus in the former Dundee star, over the last 18 months Kamara’s form has fallen off a cliff with Micky Beale giving up after a dismal performance in February’s Viaplay Cup Final defeat from Celtic.

After that wonderboys Todd Cantwell and Nico Raskin have been getting the hype with the Finnish internationalists left on the sidelines with two years still to run on his contract.

Beale has only managed to sell Antonio Colak since the season ended, having spent around £13m bloating the squad there is serious pressure on to get bodies out and reduce the wage bill.

Tonight the Glasgow Times reports:

We can reveal that the Ibrox hierarchy are gearing up for an interesting 48 hours as half-a-dozen sides consider their options regarding Kamara.

French duo Lyon and Stade Reims are joined by Turkish outfits Trabzonspor and Galatasaray in the race for his signature and it is understood that Borussia Mönchengladbach and FC Copenhagen have also expressed an interest as Kamara prepares to decide on his next move in the game.

Rangers are seeking a fee of more than £5million for Kamara and the 27-year-old, who moved to Ibrox from Dundee in a cut-price £50,000 deal in 2017, has played his last game for Beale’s side.

That timeline takes us into Friday tea-time on the eve of the new season. Getting £5m would be a lottery win for a 27-year-old midfielder that has fallen out of favour at the second best team in Scotland.

Half of that sum would be decent going with some mysterious add-ons. A year ago, after scoring in the final of the Europa League Southampton splashed out £6m on Joe Aribo and are landed with his contract as they attempt to win promotion back to the EPL.

Apart from Fashion Sakala, who is apparently attracting interest from various clubs in Saudi Arabia, the only other transfer interest at Ibrox is in Scott Wright.

Two weeks after he took a day trip to Turkey to visit Pendikspor the former Aberdeen forward is back at Ibrox with little hope of making the bench for Saturday’s SPFL opener at Kilmarnock.

Wright does have a purpose in Europe with Beale having to name four SFA trained players which gives Ryan Jack and John Souttar places. UEFA require four club developed players in the 25 man squad to face Sevette next week with Robbie McCrorie the only played meeting that criteria.
