PJ Dykes dishes out a slap to Wilson’s cheer-leader Lawrence Donegan

Paul John Dykes has become the latest high profile Celtic fan to slap down Lawrence Donegan.

It was an epic mis-match when the ACSOM host took Brian Wilson’s former tea boy to task.

Donegan has become increasingly desperate in his attacks on rank and file Celtic fans, especially the Green Brigade and Collective.

According to Donegan the Collective leadership is over-run by trots and SWP (Socialist Workers Party).

Having worked closely with a right-wing Unionist like Wilson it is no surprise that he views others as the anti-establishment types detested by the Desmond family.

In common with thousands of others Dykes commented on Twitter about the passion and bond between fans and players at Kilmarnock.

Julian Araujo’s stoppage time goal was wildly celebrated. The players and fans bonded together. Something that has largely been absent this season by design from the club.

Home matches are an endurance test. Excessive security and suspicion is placed on fans/customers. The matchday experience isn’t rating well on Trust Pilot.

The Green Brigade has been suspended since the start of November, sending the already lukewarm atmosphere plunging even lower.

THE DELUSIONS OF DONEGAN

Even on those ‘famous European night’s under the lights at Celtic Park’ the away fans of Roma and Utrecht have led the way.

Celtic have long traded off the atmosphere created off the Green Brigade. The 25/26 reality is far different as visitors are discovering.

John McGlynn even highlighted it before Falkirk’s recent visit.

It seems that Donegan has grown dewy eyed from his Californian base.

The ageing Celtic Park support badly needs the noisy energy of the Green Brigade.

When the drums beat and the songs ring out from 250 fans the remainder of the Standing Section joins in. It bounces around the stadium and spurs many others to join in.

That scenario has long gone, sadly the reality is far different. Not the great Celtic myth clung onto by Donegan and a diminishing band of others, mainly online supporters.

They had their chance to demonstrate their support in the Scottish Cup match against Dundee. Just over 20,000 Celtic fans turned up, they barely raised a cheer. The myth of the Waiting List was blown apart that night.

There aren’t 15,000 fanatical fans waiting in the wings to grasp any available tickets.

Unless you are as deluded as Donegan.

THE EXTENDED DYKES TWEET

In your opening salvo, you’re baffled.

By the second paragraph, you seem to have figured out the point of the post.

But then befuddlement returns for the closing comment.

Your loyalty to this Celtic Board has blinkered you to the reality that collective punishment is a disproportionate treatment of fellow Celtic supporters.

The simple consideration should be this: Does a full Celtic Park – including The Green Brigade – improve the atmosphere in the stadium, thus providing the only positive margin supporters can offer in our quest for the title this season?

If the answer is yes, then you take the blinkers off and let The Green Brigade return.

If no, then your blind loyalty is risking the winning of this league title.

Wilson is probably embarrassed by the activity of Donegan, a former ‘political aid’.

WILSONS UNWELCOME CONNECTIONS

While the Celtic Chairman was taking orders from Peter Mandelson and supporting war on Iraq Donegan was making cups of tea and photocopying.

And with that the former Labour MP has been lumbered with a friend for life.

Following a brief spell with the Scottish band The Bluebells Donegan moved into newspapers, a more natural home.

For a spell he appeared on the Celtic Underground podcast, these days he is increasingly distanced in terms of geography and mindset.

Calling out Peter Kelly from the Collective wasn’t a smart move. Especially the claim that he doesn’t attend matches. Rick coming from someone on the west coast of the USA, Fair to say Kelly set the record straight on that issue. And others.

Today, Wednesday February 18 Wilson and others at Celtic will meet with the Collective. It has been a long drawn out affair from the board, Wilson first spoke of unity on January 5.

If the board can’t see the benefits of having the Green Brigade back inside Celtic Park then the argument between incompetence and self sabotage is conclusively ended.

Wilson can however call on the lifelong support of Donegan.

Other than those types the only question on the Chairman’s Celtic legacy is how much of it is trashed by his slavish obedience to an elderly Caribbean based golfer.
