Last season Connor Goldson’s Champions League involvement ended with a sore leg in the 7-1 home defeat from Liverpool.
Tonight things went from bad to worse as he found himself on the scoresheet as PSV Eindhoven trounced the Ibrox Tribute Act 5-1 to reach the group stage of the main competition.
The Dutch side had been in control from the first whistle with the home fans in the Phillips Stadium already in party mode with their side 4-1 up going into the last 10 minutes.
There was one more goal to come and it was one than no-one watching will ever forget.
Jack Butland raced towards the edge of his penalty box to take a back-pass from Dujon Sterling, passing quickly to Goldson who simply stabbed the ball back into his own net as Butland tried desperately to keep the ball out.
There was no further scoring with Goldson and his team-mates crashing into the Europa League on a 7-3 aggregate.
