ITK account names left back offered to Celtic

Celtic have apparently been offered Owen Wijndal from Ajax as they look to solve the problem left-back position.

Pendy12 is one of the select posters on Kerrydale Street that has a track record of information relating to transfer activities without having to make a song and dance about his In The Know status.

Wijndal joined Ajax from AZ Alkmaar in the summer of 2022 but after a single season he was sent out on loan last season to Antwerp.

The 24-year-old has 11 full caps for the Netherlands but his career seems to have stalled since moving to Ajax during the disastrous summer of 2022 when the Dutch side were duped into signing Calvin Bassey.

Last season Wijndal played in 29 league matches for Antwerp as well as all six Champions League ties which suggests that he has recovered from the Ajax 22/23 experience.

Left back, Wijndal

The left-back position at Celtic has been an issue for a couple of seasons with Alexandro Bernabei clearly not a solution with the Argentinian sent out on loan in March and struggling to get game time at Internacional of Brazil.

An additional complication is the negotiations with Greg Taylor over a new deal with the former Kilmarnock defender’s contract expiring at the end of the season.

If a big hitter is signed Taylor would be demoted to left-back which would shape his contract decision, from January he can sign a pre-contract deal to move elsewhere.

Wijndal won’t be moving out on loan or on a permanent basis to be a back-up option which complicates the Taylor situation.

Owen Beck from Liverpool and Wolves defender Hugo Bueno but there is little of substance to these links other than reviving speculation from the January transfer window.

The transfer window is open until 11.30pm on Friday August 30, the day after the draw is made for the new look Champions League.

Still wouldn’t like to call how Rodgers intends to resolve the LB position within the squad?
At present we have Taylor and Anderson by the looks of things, which in turn takes up 2 of our homegrown quota within a 25man squad?
Also at present AJ, Taylor and ralston would be our options within a 20man SPFL match day squad?
Ralston still remains the most likely to be used as a sub, where he can play either of the full back positions if required within an SPFL match?
So if Rodgers decides upon getting a potential improvement upon Taylor, then what is the outcome going to be regarded Taylor and Anderson for the season ahead?
Plus it potentially leaves ourselves maybe looking at another player to fill our homegrown quota also within our squad?
Still believe that Tierney on a loan deal could be the simplest solution to the problems within the LB position imo?
It remains unclear as to just how highly Rodgers might rate Anderson also, especially if he sees Anderson as a potential better player to have within the squad in the longer run for ourselves, which obviously effects Taylor contract situation?
And all this without knowing where monty could fit into the equation also?
Like most of our support, there is possibly a position available for a higher quality player than Taylor within our squad?
Yet Taylor has done well in pre season and on Sunday also, and Rodgers seems to regard Taylor fairly highly still?
So overall I wouldn’t regard the LB position as straightforward as many seem to think it is, regarding the decisions that Rodgers has to be making?
