According to one obscure Twitter/X account Celtic are showing ‘mega interest’ in signing Odsonne Edouard from Crystal Palace.
Celtic picked up a fee of around £16m from Palace in August 2021 for the striker known as French Eddie, it is unlikely that any add-ons have been paid out with the striker failing to make much of an impact in the EPL.
There is always a clamour to turn the clock back, sign up a former favourite but the reality is that things are much changed from the summer of 2018 when Edouard was signed from Paris Saint Germain after a successful season on loan.
Counter Pressers is a Barcelona based Twitter account, at 9am this morning they had 1,708 followers while following 1,660 having joined X/Twitter in April 2024.
There is a small chance that they have all the inside information on Crystal Palace transfer news but it is a stretch too far to imagine that Celtic have mega interest on someone who is probably being paid more than double the salary of Celtic’s top earner, believed to be Callum McGregor.
With the domestic season finished and a lull before the transfer window technically opens there isn’t much substance around with the tweet from Counter Pressers picked up with some glee by a number of publishers.
Odsonne Edouard
Unfortunately for the Frenchmen, his move to the Premier League has not worked out. Despite scoring 21 goals in 3 years for the Eagles, with the resurgence of Mateta, it is clear there is no place for Edouard.

Kieran Tierney has been the subject of regular ‘coming home’ rumours in the five years since he left for Arsenal but that is another tale that is destined never to take place.
Edouard and Tierney were great Celtic players, gave their lot, excelled in the biggest matches and delivered trophies but in 2024 they are sitting on contracts guaranteeing them £100,000 a week.
No matter how nostalgic it may seem they won’t be returning to Celtic to relive past glories and be part of Rodgers II.
At the age of 26 Edouard is a year away from becoming a free agent, the most lucrative stage in his life.
There could be another EPL contract from Palace or elsewhere, he might have his eye on a return to France or very possibly have sounded out Moussa Dembele about a move to the Saudi Pro League.
A trip to the Celtic Player of the Year Awards brings back fond memories, watching Celtic lifting trophies will bring a smile but in the short footballing career there is little room for sentiment although there is always the prospect of pulling on the hoops in a legends match sometime around 2034.
