Stephen McGowan has claimed that Peter Vindahl Jensen of Sparta Prague is Celtic’s first choice ‘keeper to replace Joe Hart.
In the 18 days since Hart played his last match for Celtic there has almost been a rumour a day over who would be his successor.
Earlier this week Martin Dubravka from Newcastle was linked with a move while Asmir Begovic’s name seems to pop up once a week.
Over the seasons McGowan has developed a reputation for being exceptionally close to the news inside the Celtic boardroom with his transfer reports almost always carrying some substance other than linking Liam Kelly with a move to the champions.
Writing in the Daily Mail McGowan claims:
Celtic have prioritised a midfielder, while Mail Sport understands that Sparta Prague’s Danish goalkeeper Peter Vindahl Jensen is now their first choice to replace Joe Hart. The 26-year-old former AZ Alkmaar keeper is likely to command a fee in excess of £4m.
A fee of £5m topped up by add-ons is certainly within Celtic’s budget with Jensen having the sort of profile that takes him out of the ‘project’ category.
The Dane has played in Holland and the Czech Republic where English is likely to be the second dressing room language at most clubs.
With Hart officially announcing his retirement in February Celtic should be well down the route to bringing in his replacement.
The former England ‘keeper was in the third and final year of his contract, under Brendan Rodgers and Ange Postecoglou neither Ben Siegrist or Scott Bain have been close to displacing Hart.
Celtic’s first pre-season friendly is at Ayr United on July 5, in an ideal world the new ‘keeper should be involved in that match to give him as much time as possible before the SPFL opener a month later.
If there is no signing made for the USA friendlies against DC United, Manchester City and Chelsea on July 21, 24 and 27 supporters will have grounds for concern over the efficiency of the recruitment set up.
