Of course it is a good reaction- Clement on the brink

Apparently Philippe Clement is a Proper Football Manager.

Maybe in comparison to Micky Beale he is but that isn’t much of a bechmark for the former Monaco boss.

For the best part of six months his every comments and actions were drooled over as he led the bears away from their nightmare start to the season.

Three defeats in their first seven SPFL matches alongside a Champions League hammering from PSV Eindhoven proved to be too much as fans watched Cyriel Dessers and Sam Lammers go through the motions while they pinned their hopes on Tik Tok Cantwell.

Failing to learn anything from the past the adulation for Clement was way over the top, recently Dave King spoke of his fear that the current Ibrox boss would be a managerial target for Liverpool, Bayern Munich or Manchester United.

This morning the South African based criminal can sleep easy without having to worry about that prospect.

Yes, they gave a reaction. We didn’t get the result we wanted. We were the only team to deserve this result this evening in the possession, in the chances also. The clear chances but you need to put the ball against the net. And you also need some luck sometimes. A few good opportunities, a few good saves of the goalkeeper who had a really good game.

A few times the ball was saved on the line, in the goal. You need to take that moment, and that opens up the game. If Dundee needs to come also and to do something with the ball, what they almost didn’t do, except from the start of the game.

Two wins in eight matches just isn’t acceptable to Ibrox fans, on Tuesday Clement tried to extract Benfica from that calculation but two wins in six matches at the business end of the season isn’t any more palatable for a support brought up on delusions.

Having led the bears to the top of the hill with plans laid for the trashing of George Square Clement now has to try and deal with the aftermath. Good luck with that if the online reaction os anything to go by.

Reality has returned with a core of serial losers surrounded by expensive misfits put together under three different managers.

Beale managed to get a tune out of them but it only took six months for SPFL managers to work out the tactics of the Brains Behind Gerrard.

Clement has the wisdom of Alex Rae to call on as he attempts to prevent full on meltdown, the Belgian would be wise to keep an eye on the former Super Scoreboard pundit as he gets himself fitted out for a blazer and brogues.
