With less than three weeks left to run in the transfer window Sky Sports are reporting interest in Liel Abada.
In the second half of last season it seemed inevitable that the winger would be on the move during the close season but that possibility seemed to dim when Jota was sold to Al Ittihad for £25m.
Last season Ange Postecoglou’s side relied heavily on Jota, Daizen Maeda and Abada with all three heavily involved in goalscoring and assists.
The former hoops boss virtually rebuilt Celtic in the summer of 2021 but this year the club has already lost Josip Juranovic, Giorgos Giakoumakis, Carl Starfelt and Jota- adding a fifth exit would put the club’s Player Trading Model under real threat.
At 15.52 on their Transfer Blog Sky Sports reported:
Two European clubs are set to make offers for Celtic’s Liel Abada.
One unnamed club from France and one from the German Bundesliga both want to sign the winger.
Celtic are weighing up their options after Abada started in the first game of the season under Brendan Rodgers – a win over Ross County.
Rodgers has been impressed with Abada after good performances in pre-season.
Ajax and Sporting Lisbon are still keeping tabs on the player, as we reported earlier in this summer.
Celtic are under no pressure to sell any players this month, earlier in the summer the club announced to the Stock Market that profits would be in excess of expectations.
Marco Tilio and Yang Hyun-jun have both been signed this month but neither has any experience of playing in European football.
Getting one of those wingers upto Abada standards over the course of this season would be a welcome boost but at this stage of the transfer window losing the Israeli internationalist would be a massive blow to the plans of Brendan Rodgers.
Abada cost Celtic £3.5m when he signed in July 2021, making an instant impact by scoring against Midtjylland in a Champions League qualifier- the first competitive match with fans inside Celtic Park for 16 months. Israeli side Petah Tikva are believed to have a signifucant sell on in Abada’s contract.
The wording of the Sky Sports report strongly suggests that an agent is the creator with two un-named clubs to sniff out other interest.
Abada started Saturday’s SPFL opener at home to Ross County and is expected to be in the squad for Sunday’s match at Aberdeen.

Wouldn’t be buying to much into it myself.
Think abada will stay this season, but a longshot for him to remain after this season imo.
Would have thought that if abada had any intentions of moving, we would have known by now, and as nothing has materialised yet, think nothing is in such news.
Yet you can never be to sure all the while the window is open either
