Bosun Lawal is reported to be a loan target for Fleetwood Town.
The defender joined Celtic in the summer of 2021 and has been a regular in the B team playing in the Lowland League over the last two seasons.
That hasn’t really taken him any closer to the Celtic first team with Maik Nawrocki signed last month and Gustaf Lagerbielke expected to join the hoops next week.
First team football is essential for Lawal to develop his game with The Sun reporting:
CELTIC hero Scott Brown is set to snap up the club’s highly-rated young Irish defender Bosun Lawal on a season-long loan. Brown served as Brendan Rodgers’ hugely successful captain for years – and the pair remain close.
He was briefly linked with a move back to the club to be part of Rodgers’ backroom team – only for John Kennedy to remain at the club instead.
But Brown is well connected inside Parkhead and has a keen eye on the emerging talent there. He took midfielder Scott Robertson on a permanent basis from Celtic Park last summer- and now he’s poised to add Lawal to his squad too.
Robertson moved to Fleetwood in January, during the close season Adam Montgomery moved to the League One side on a season long loan.
Having turned 20 at the end of May time is still on Lawal’s side but after spending time at Watford and Celtic he needs to be tested in the professional game.
Fleetwood followed last week’s draw away to Carlisle, Fleetwood lost 2-0 at home to Cambridge United and travel to league leaders Bolton on Tuesday night.
Last season’s mid-table finish was an impressive achievement by Brown in his first venture outside of Scottish football.
With 46 League One fixtures the schedule is unrelenting for Fleetwood with players having to learn fast to adapt to the demands.
Going on loan to Fleetwood isn’t an easy option for Celtic players, extra pressure will be on through the Brown connection with no room for sentiment.
After today’s defeat Brown told the Fleetwood website:
Now we need to bounce back from this, there will be a lot of changes that’s for sure. We’ve got to make sure that we win our battles so we can win games. There was one slack pass, then another, and I think we were a bit naïve, not winning the challenges in front of us.
Today, we didn’t do that as we were slack on the ball and got bullied in the individual battles. Their chances came from us being slack on the ball, but I know I’ve got to take the hit for this one.
Celtic’s B team lost 3-1 away to Civil Service Strollers today, leaving them with seven points from five matches in the Lowland League.
