Incoming- Celtic set to issue fan bans as furious Desmond reacts to Tennis Ball protests

The tennis ball statement from Celtic left no-one in any doubt.

Celtic are preparing to hand out bans to Season Ticket holders. Indefinite bans, not suspensions.

Last season 250 Green Brigade members were suspended for six months based on nothing in particular.

Grainy long range video footage was produced showing fans leaving the front area of the Standing Section of Celtic Park.

Something that started off as an ‘assault’ was downgraded to a serious incident was used to suspend 250 Season Ticket holders. So far no-one has appeared in court in relation to this non-incident.

On the back of the suspension the sterile Celtic Park atmosphere turned eerily quiet.

On January 3 Michael Nicholson rolled out the red carpet to the Union Bears as they brought their racist poison to Celtic Park.

The songs banned and punished by UEFA are welcomed by Celtic. Between doodling Brian Wilson was noted tapping his toes to the songs from the 2,400 away fans.

Not a peep of complaint came from Celtic as they welcomed the vile songbook of their much loved city business partners.

CELTIC RELEASE THEIR WINE O’CLOCK ANGER ON FANS

A couple of dozen golf balls at a distant golf course?

A very different story. It seems that the very structure and stability of Celtic is under threat.

No one reading the 10.07 Saturday night statement can be in any doubt over what is about to follow:

Over the past year, however, the conduct of the Green Brigade and those operating through the Celtic Fans Collective has increasingly threatened to undermine that hard-earned reputation. Repeated acts of disruption and escalation, culminating in today’s pre-planned disruption of an entirely unrelated sporting event, risk creating an image of Celtic supporters which is wholly unrepresentative of the overwhelming majority of those who follow the Club.

The reputation of Celtic supporters belongs to the entire Celtic family. It does not belong to any self-appointed group, and no such group is entitled to diminish it in pursuit of its own agenda.

There is certainly an entitled self-appointed group operating inside Celtic.

They sit in comfy seats, never pay in a penny, extract thousands and create division showing contempt for dissent outside their elite bubble.

It is only a matter of time before the club announces indefinite bans aimed at the Green Brigade.

Over the last few months momentum has drained from the Celtic Fans Collective.

Those 867 words published just after Wine O’Clock on Saturday carried a very familiar tone

That  statement has revived the Celtic support. Given the Collective fresh fuel. The Collective is a rallying point for supporter anger.

Alongside the Collective the recently former Celtic Supporters Limited has been formed highlighting governance issues and making inroads into share issues.

LAYING THE GROUNDS FOR CIVIL WAR

The Celtic support has been mobilised over the last 15 months, they won’t be going back.

Michael Nicholson, Chris McKay, Brian Wilson, Sharon Brown and Brian Rose are guilty by association as directors.

They never raised a whimper of complaint at the Brendan Rodgers statement a year ago. They sat on their hands as Ross Desmond trashed fans at the AGM before Chairman Lawwell did a runner.

Banning fans is going to collapse the season.

There is a horrific schedule of matches coming up. Another AGM is looming.

In two weeks time Celtic are at home to Hearts on the back on an ominous trip to Benfica.

Banning the Green Brigade will only strengthen protests against the board. With the fans having a year to prepare.

After Hearts there is a Europa League tie at home to Celta Vigo.

There may be more than a few tennis balls around for that match in front of a European audience broadcast by TNT.

Lawwell and Tom Allison have already bailed out.

The other directors can bring issues to the fore by resigning on the back of last night’s attack on fans.

The gold ball protest and mild and peaceful.

Celtic’s statement suggested that a major incident occurred. People had been injured, hospitalised.

One faction is wreaking havoc at Celtic. Their over-reaction to a few tennis balls looks like kicking off protests at a level that no-one on the Celtic Board has ever previously witnessed.
