Nicholson and Wilson make secret visit to meet Celtic supporters

Michael Nicholson and Brian Wilson made a late decision to meet with the Association of Irish Celtic Supporters Clubs on Saturday. It came after they held their AGM in the afternoon.

The meeting was held in Cork but it seems that a complete blanket of secrecy has been thrown over the entire event.

There hasn’t been a single quote from the AGM on X/Twitter which will suit Nicholson perfectly.

It seems that Celtic made a late request to the Committee of the AICSC for the executive duo to appear with Martin O’Neill brought along as a shield.

Agreeing to the request the Committee felt that their appearance would give fans the chance to raise questions and concerns directly with the board.

All well and good except that absolutely nothing has emerged from the AGM!

Nicholson could have outlined his exciting plans to back O’Neill in the transfer market.

Explain about the world class recruitment department that he has developed to allow Celtic to compete with clubs like Copenhagen, Club Brugge, Qarabag and Sporting Lisbon in the Champions League.

It seems that without a script from Gerry McCulloch the Celtic CEO preferred to live up to his Mute Mike nickname.

Possibly the most pointless tweet you’ll read.

Wilson and Nicholson were welcomed to communicate and engage with supporters.

But the AICSC won’t repeat any of the words of wisdom that were shared with the chosen few.

THE EMPTY PLEDGES OF INTERIM CHAIRMAN BRIAN WILSON

Since becoming Interim Chairman on January 1 Wilson has provided a monthly Supporters Update on You Tube.

Clearly it is just another box ticking exercise the Interim Chairman waffles through about six minutes of chat with McCulloch making the vaguest of promises. Of course nothing has been delivered on those pledges.

Following Celtic’s Scottish Cup win at Ibrox in March and the media pile on Wilson waited five days before offering the weakest of defences for the fans who came under attack after undergoing a ridiculous process to access the stadium.

Wilson blamed the ban on the Green Brigade on action taken by the Stadium Advisory Group of Glasgow City Council. It seems that the meaning of the word advisory escaped the former Labour MP.

Without any further developments the suspension of the Green Brigade was lifted for the last four home matches of the season. The suspended fans were compensated for missing out on five months of being unable to use their season Tickets.

On April 30 Wilson revealed the club’s exciting plans to engage with supporters, the Celtic website highlighted:

Brian confirmed:

  • New investment in supporter engagement department
  • The establishment of a new fan engagement structure to be undertaken during the summer, following consultation with fans.
  • A new expanded Fan Forum

Nothing definite has emerged from those wooly sound-bites.

More than two months later there is no sign of the promised Fan Engagement Officer. John Paul Taylor is Celtic’s overworked Fan Liaison Officer. A box ticking post to comply with UEFA licence requirements, just like having an Academy and Ladies team.

CELTIC AND THE MANAGED DECLINE

The last Fan Forum was held in May 2025. The highlight was Paul Tisdale outlining the club’s approach to recruitment and player development.

Saturday’s appearance came six weeks after the Scottish Cup Final win over Dunfermline.

It was also the day of Celtic’s first summer ‘signing’. Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain agreed a new 12 month contract. That means that the squad from last season is two med down, Marcelo Saracchi and Kelechi Iheanacho.

O’Neill seems to think that a couple of signings are needed to augment the players he already has.

With Nicholson at large there is likely to be at least three big money transfers this summer.

Arne Engels and Daizen Maeda have already been as good as promised moves. Nicholson will be hoping that the agents for Alistair Johnston, Ben Nygren and Auston Trusty can present him with offers that he can’t refuse.

While the club celebrates selling out on Season Tickets they are creating a mass of resentment and anger.

Celtic look like starting the 26/27 season significantly weaker than they finished 25/26. By design.

The Celtic Fans Collective is now established. They have seriously hurt finances through Not Another Penny. A campaign that was to be reviewed at the start of February but which now appears to be permanently in place.

TIPPING POINT IS COMING FOR THE WORLD CLASS CELTIC BOARD

The AICSC is one of the groups signed up to the Collective.

The tipping point this season could come much earlier this season.

In the Champions League Play Off Celtic will almost certainly face better opponents than Kairat Almaty.

Failing to back O’Neill and dropping into the Europa League could prove to be the perfect storm. Just as Nicholson celebrates a transfer window surplus and a bank balance close to £100m.

When that happens the Committee of the AICSC will have a tough job explaining to their members that Nicholson and Wilson are great guys with Celtic’s interests at heart.

Very disappointing if this is kept secret. Divide and conquer at work
