FAKE NEWS- STV blame Celtic fans for damage to Copland Road Stand

STV News has shown a clip of damaged seats in the Copland Road Stand at Ibrox to illustrate the damage caused by AWAY FANS at Ibrox on Sunday.

Celtic’s victory in the Scottish Cup tie has kicked off a melt down among Ibrox fans and their media partners.

David Tanner and Tom English were among the first out the traps to blame everything on Celtic fans from their seats on the media gantry at Ibrox.

The views of both ‘reporters’ are well known. All is hunky dory at Ibrox while Celtic supporters are the root of all evil in Scottish football and society.

Variations of that theme have been played out since Sunday despite the evidence of Celtic players and staff being attacked on the pitch at Ibrox.

They will go the extra mile to back the Tribute Act formed by Charles Green in 2012 which has brought anew level of toxicity to Scottish society.

Despite their meagre trophy count of three in 14 years their fans twice rioted in the centre of Glasgow during the 2021 lockdown restrictions.

Fans couldn’t attend football matches but thousands twice gathered in George Square to wreck the centre of Glasgow.

THE AGENDA CHOSEN BY STV

STV News followed that template as they followed up on Sunday’s events at Ibrox.

They decided to highlight the issue with a brief aerial clip of seat damage at Ibrox, attributing it to the away fans. No Celtic supporters were in the Copland Road Stand.

The advertising boards at the front and the white walls at the back distinguish the new look Copland Road Stand from the Broomloan Road Stand opposite.

The STV reporters and editorial staff either can’t accurately do their job or deliberately chose to highlight damage to one stand with another group of supporters.

Fortunately social media was able to set the record straight.

There was almost certainly damage caused to seating at Ibrox by Celtic supporters. It may have been more or less than in the Copland Road Stand.

For their own reasons STV News decided to go in a different direction with their coverage.

SO MANY NEWS OPTIONS FROM IBROX

There are many issues to select from the post match incidents at Ibrox on Sunday.

Tomas Cvancara appeared live on television with blood on his shirt.

There is social media coverage of attacks being made on Julian Araujo and a member of the Celtic coaching staff.

Those attacks came in front of the enclosure area at Ibrox. Where was the stewarding and police for that area of the stadium?

On Sunday night there was a very well used social media clip from the tunnel area at Ibrox. Celtic players and staff were jostled, had abuse screamed at them and were spat at.

In the eighties that issue was addressed by installing a retractable tunnel, conveniently sponsored by McEwan’s Lager.

That retractable tunnel wasn’t in use on Sunday.

All of these issues are very valid news stories.

Only STV know their editorial policy to focus on one aspect and highlight it by conflicting evidence from the other side of Ibrox.

STV are of course trusted media partners of Celtic with big Raman or wee Ronnie at Lennoxtown on Friday fishing for reactions from Martin O’Neill.
