Peter’s Paean- Lawwell the Fans Made Man

Peter ‘just a fan’ Lawwell. Made by the fans, hired by the fans, a fan when it suits him, a fan when it keeps the heat off.

He’s the CEO who wears trophies on his CV like medals he nicked from someone else’s war, a guy whose life story reads like a highlights reel of Celtic’s wins, but he always makes sure he’s in the clear when things go wrong.

LAWWELL’S TOP EUROPEAN RESULTS

Maribor, Malmo, AEK Athens, Cluj, Ferencvaros, Midtjylland, Kairat Almaty

Forget the managers, the Rodgers’ the Ange’s of Celtic history. Trebles, trebles, trebles. Achievements stacked high, history made. But the guy behind the money stuff, the heated driveway, the bank account that’s like an untouchable fortress? That’s Lawwell. Managers come and go, the club keeps going. And while it does, Peter sits there, smiling, nobody questions him.

Team wins? That’s him. A nod here, a quick handshake there, and he can talk about the trophies in interviews, press releases, and official life stories. Team loses? Not him. “How things are set up. The way the market is. How football is run.” It’s the classic Lawwell deflection move. He’s built a career on being untouchable, not invincible, unlike Brendan Rodgers, who actually managed the invincible treble. Lawwell’s trick is to cleverly avoid blame and use precise words.

Peter’s a fan, or so he says. A fan when it’s handy, a fan when it makes him look good, a fan when it protects his little kingdom. But step out of line? Question what he’s saying? Criticize what he’s doing? Suddenly, the fan disappears. And the man, untouchable, remains.

Think about the trophies, the awards, the official statements: 34 big trophies while he’s been in charge, UEFA Champions League qualifications almost perfect, a life story that reads like a football CV. But when you look closely, you see the pattern. The guy who loves Celtic walks away loaded, leaving how things are set up, the market, and how football is run to take the blame. You can almost hear the theme from The Littlest Hobo playing quietly in the background, Lawwell heading back to his fancy castle with tyres that are better kept than the streets he drives on.

He’s a product of the fans’ love for Celtic. Not Celtic plc or pivot-table Excel spreadsheets. And yet, like all great sad stories, there’s irony. The guy who owes everything to the fans also seems to hate what he sees as their weakness, walking off with all the good stuff, leaving everyone else to deal with the mess.

Lawwell leaves with Celtic 58th in the UEFA co-efficiency table. Thanks mainly to last season under the manager that was undermined into resigning in October.

Compper? Amido Blade? Could add quite a few more to his hit list… He is also a product of no accountability which resulted in him playing football manager without any of the risk!

No doubt he did some good at Celtic but that was in the distant past and is vastly outweighed by the harm he has inflicted.

He has gladly taken millions from the club he loves (giving himself EPL pay rises at every opportunity) while deriding the real (ie paying) fans who have helped heat his driveway. See ya later Pete, ‘no-one gives a fcuk about ya!’
