Are all of the Celtic directors cowards?

Sixteen days on from senior figures inside Celtic briefing a source to do the dirty on Brendan Rodgers there has still not been a comment or action from within the club.

Ten days ago Brendan Rodgers described it as a cowardly act, whoever was so upset that the manager was engineering his exit could have put in a phone call to Rodgers or arranged a meeting, they could even have dropped in on his home to chat things over.

Since that media conference no action has been taken by Celtic.

Michael Nicholson seems to be on mute from one AGM to the next, sadly the nodding dogs in place as Non Executive Directors have also taken no action.

They must be quite comfortable with the comments published by The Sun, a long time and trusted media partner.

On Friday The Sun were at the media conferences at Lennoxtown, they’ll be looked after in Zagreb in midweek and have a place in the Media Area for Saturday’s match against Hibs.

More than a few fan media websites and podcasts have been contacted by Celtic’s PR team about content published, usually it is quickly removed.

It seems that PR chief Iain Jamieson is quite comfortable with The Sun being used to try and undermine the Celtic manager.

The coward or cowards involved will likely be watching today’s match against Partick Thistle from the Firhill Directors Box.

Celtic fans, Nicholson, McKay

Through their lack of action Brian Wilson, Tom Allison, Brian Rose and Sharon Brown have shown that they either don’t care for the manager of the club or simply disregard their duties as NED’s which is primarily to question the decision making of the Chairman and CEO to ensure that the club follows best practice.

In midweek they will almost certainly be on board for the business class jolly to Belgrade.

By their silence we can also assume that they are also in agreement with weakening the first team squad in order to boost the bank balance to record levels

On a run they will also be comfortable with the rambling September 6 statement which claimed that UEFA Sustainability regulations impacted on recruitment during the summer.

As a reminder the source told The Sun:

Senior figures inside the club believe Rodgers is engineering his exit.

What he’s said in public has torn the club apart. On and off the record discussions are creating division throughout the club.

He’s the only manager in the club’s history who has repeatedly questioned things.

That gem about off the record discussions was made by an un-named source, clearly they have never heard or read the comments of Ange Postecoglou, Neil Lennon or Ronny Deila after being knocked out of Champions League qualifiers.

The source added:

When Brendan came back, he agreed to the club’s strategy.

There are now people inside the club who are deeply unhappy with his words.

To make matters worse, these issues appear to be seeping into the performance of the team. It’s like Groundhog Day again.

It would be nice if the club revealed exactly what the strategy is.

Nothing impacts on performances more than selling off the best players which Nicholson has carried out highly effectively by getting rid of Kyogo Furuhashi, Nicolas Kuhn and Adam Idah.

Perhaps if the club held meaningful negotiations over a new contract for Rodgers they’d be able to work out his intentions rather than getting a pal to go bleating to Roger Hannah.

The last time that the Celtic CEO spoke to the media he claimed that the ambition of the club was to be world class in everything they do. Communications clearly still has some work to do.

Brendan Rodgers, Celtic

The combination of the story being handed to The Sun followed up by the 1030 word statement has galvanised opposition to the Celtic board, reinforced by the subsequent silence from inside the club

Getting Charlie Mulgrew, Willie Haughey and Graham Spiers to talk up the brilliance of a board and strategy that has failed the last five times that they’ve been presented with a Champions League qualifier has also backfired.

Celtic fans can join the dots, it is not the nineties where you could control the story through a few compliant reporters.

The recent activities to change the narrative have helped strengthen the Celtic Fans Collective, representing over 400 strands within the support that want change at the club- in personnel and policy.

Nicholson and his corporate chums look like doubling down on their policy of silence and treating supporters with nothing but contempt.

With Rodgers’ contract ticking down there is no escape route for the Celtic CEO and the cowardly NED’s guilty by their silence.

If you look at the Barrowfield opening video ( women’s reaction ) go to 4:17
It clearly states — Main Purpose..
    Play in the champions league.
The board have clearly , once again , negated on a main principle .
