Where’s the merch? Celtic count the cost of Collective actions

Brian Wilson was at his evasive best as he put the gloss on the interim accounts of Celtic for the six months to 31 December 2025.

It read like a Peter Mandelson masterpiece from peak New Labour. Wilson was a cabinet colleague of the disgraced former Ambassador.

No substance, vague promises and complete evasion of the issues that really matter.

On January 5 as Martin O’Neill returned as interim manager Wilson mentioned unity in the club statement.

Six weeks later nothing has changed. Wilson has held talks with some fan groups. Not the Celtic Fans Collective.

Avoiding the issues. The interim Chairman could cut to the chase by sitting down with the Collective.

A lifetime as a politician, working alongside people like Mandelson has shaped Wilson.

Nothing that he says or does is genuine. Everything is about image and perception.

Wilson covers the departure of Brendan Rodgers claiming that there ‘was no prior warning’. Dermot Desmond wasn’t slow to respond, ensuring that no credible manager will go near Celtic anytime soon.

Rodgers, Celtic, O'Neill

Pull the other one Brian. When a player or manager is in the final year of his contract there is a strong chance they will leave. Nail them down or replace them.

When a colleague runs bleating to The Sun about the manager there is a decent chance that thetarget will be able to put two and two together.

When you sell off your top scorers and impose signings from a former Exeter manager there is a good chance that your manager will be looking to leave.

And when he gets told in October that it will be more of the same in January don’t be shocked if he resigns.

WILSON- CELTIC ‘MASTER’ OF SPIN

Brendan Rodgers resigning didn’t come as a shock to anyone outside the free loaders in the Celtic boardroom.

A competent club with a functioning CEO will have a short list of replacement managers constantly under review. Especially in the final nine months of a contract.

A competent CEO wouldn’t appoint Paul Tisdale or appoint his mate who is the seventh best coach in the Eastern Conference of the MLS.

Celtic moved into a whole new level of contempt when it came to publishing their income for the first six months of the financial year.

The Interim Accounts are for the benefit of shareholders. Merging merchandise is a distortion on previous years. Clearly the intention is to avoid highlighting the impact on Not Another Penny.

Tonight in the 2025 Interim Report Celtic included merchandise income alongside multi-media and commercial activities.

Celtic, CollectiveA year ago Celtic highlighted merchandising as a separate item, an impressive £18m driven mainly by Adidas sales from supporters.

Celtic, CollectiveNot Another Penny more has been devastatingly successful.

Fans were sickened by the summer transfer activity, the lack of competence and the ease with which a Champions League campaign was written off.

While Rodgers was trying to motivate players Michael Nicholson was trying to sell of Daizen Maeda, Adam Idah and Yang Hyun-jun. One out of three is par for the course for the Celtic CEO.

BALANCE SHEET OVER TEAM SHEET

Celtic made a profit of £14.1m during the summer while missing out on £40m from the Champions League.

They finished 2025 with £67.4m in the bank account then failed to make a single permanent signing.

On every item there are causes for concern among supporters. People that go to matches, committed to the team and seeing red flags all around them.

An interim manager, an interim Chairman, a hologram as CEO and team sheet rammed with short term deals isn’t the template for Europe’s most admired club as Celtic’s messengers declare.

At the very least Wilson can deliver on his unity claim.

It is easily resolved.

The Green Brigade, the anti-establishment fans will outlast hired hands like Mark Hargreaves and Michael Nicholson. Celtic have disposed of Tisdale and Nancy this year, they can do the same with their CEO and Head of Security.

There are major issues to resolve, the Green Brigade aren’t going to walk into a booby trap set up by stewards and Police Scotland.

A truce could be established. The sort of thing that politicians specialise in. A short term fix with the summer break the opportunity to establish a lasting peace.

It is something that Martin O’Neill and Kieran Tierney want to see.

Surely Wilson can grasp the open goal and notch up his first ever achievement as a Celtic director/free loader.
