The finger of suspicion is pointed at all of the Celtic directors.
Last Saturday The Sun published allegations about Brendan Rodgers that they were given from someone close to senior figures at the club.
It wasn’t James Forrest or Callum McGregor.
That narrows the suspects list down to Michael Nicholson, Chris McKay, Peter Lawwell, Brian Wilson, Tom Allison, Dermot Desmond, Sharon Brown and Brian Rose.
Never in a million years would Desmond be passing instructions on to a friend of Roger Hannah.
The Non-Executive Directors really should be all over this sort of issue- a senior club figure trying to destabilise the first team manager with allegations shared to a national newspaper.
GIVE BRENDAN A BELL
As Rodgers said in Friday’s media conference he is at Lennoxtown most of the day, he has his phone switched on, alternatively the unhappy senior figure could drop in on his home for an exchange of opinions.
Rodgers isn’t hiding but it seems that Hannah’s pal is keeping a very low profile while throwing their boardroom colleagues into the spotlight by not putting a hand up to claim responsibility.
In that case the other directors could come forward and deny that they provided The Sun with the story that has shown Celtic up as a club divided.
Isolate the coward.
THE IN-HOUSE COWARD
Someone senior wants to blacken Rodgers’ name but that same person doesn’t have the courage to share their concerns with the other directors or the manager.
If Rodgers is undermining every aspect of how the club is being run he should be sacked. If the rest of the board disagree the person running to The Sun should put their name to the complaints or resign.
However when you have Nicholson providing leadership with his decision making skills you clearly have problems.
Nicholson and McKay are apparently great guys, that doesn’t mean that they are competent at their jobs but Rodgers works with them on a daily basis. He doesn’t suspect them of running to The Sun.
THE ROLL CALL OF NEDS
Allison and Wilson have been NEDs for a combined 45 years- surely they can speak out and distance themselves from the story in The Sun.
Brown has been a NED for nine years, Rose for two. If they are doing their job they drive this issue or speak out to confirm that they haven’t been briefing The Sun.
Chairman Peter Lawwell has built up plenty of media contacts over the last 20 years- he seems the ideal person to nail down who has been trying to undermine the manager, the club, the team.
Go for it Mr Chairman, redeem yourself, or something like that.
