£17m Old Trafford star set for game changing Ibrox move

To the surprise of no-one, defeat to a third tier English side and the announcement that Todd Cantwell wants out of Ibrox has been met with a predictable moonbeam in the shape of Hannibal Mejbri.

He could be a Seville flop or a £17m Old Trafford starlet but with a pivotal fixture card in August fast approaching good news is badly required for the suffering bears as they come to terms with the loss of Ibrox and the Pre-Season Cup.

Three disastrous pre-season defeats have set off the alarm bells with the man known recently as A Proper Football Manager now being compared to Micky Beale and David Martindale.

After skirting with the reality of the situation that their club is in loyal bears need a quality distraction like the signings of Joey Barton, Bruno Alves, Amad Diallo or Aaron Ramsey.

Watching expensive damaged goods provides reassurance that their Tribute Act is actually big time and meaningful with another Manchester United starlet fitting the bill.

The Sun reports:

RANGERS face a two-way race with FC Copenhagen to sign Manchester United academy star Hannibal Mejbri, according to a report.

Philippe Clement was granted a closer look at the midfielder when United defeated the Gers at Murrayfield last week.

And the 21-time capped Tunisian international played the second half of the glamour game.

Rangers are already closing in on a deal with Wolfsburg to bring winger Vaclav Cerny on loan, but have also been linked with a move for Sevilla midfielder Joan Jordan.

Fellow middle man Hannibal also spent the second half of last season in Seville – playing six times in La Liga. That deal included a £17m option to buy – but the Spaniards have not taken up United on their offer.

There will be a good reason for that decision, and another good reason for trying to offload the midfielder to the car crash Clement is driving at Ibrox with his Revolution! way off track.

With nine days to go until the SPFL season opens with a trip to Tynecastle any new signing is going to be up against the clock trying to turn around a dressing room full of expensive losers.

Meanwhile there are still no buyers for James Tavernier, Connor Goldson, Sam Lammers or Todd Cantwell as July pay roll approaches.
