Ibrox fan uncovers €50m of talent in current squad!

After the reality of losing the Scottish Cup Final to Celtic kicked in for around 48 hours the Gullible and Deluded are back on form pretending that the season just finished barely happened with one Ibrox fan coming up with an incredible squad valuation.

The first and last dozen games barely matter as they focus on the brilliance of A Proper Football Manager who brought out the best in a squad that is oozing in mediocrity from players on contracts that they know won’t be matched elsewhere.

Losing out to Norwich for Jose Cordoba ought to have been another brush with reality but with a rebuild anticipated some of the smarter bears have been assessing the value in the current squad- the majority of whom have seen off at least two managers with Phil Clement no more than a 50-50 bet to survive until Christmas.

It seems that the notorious Transfermarkt website has had an impact, the site that regularly valued Ryan Kent and Alfredo Morelos at £15m before they left as free agents with the Colombian striker taking six months to find a new club. His new club, Santos then suffered relegation to the Brazilian Second Division for the first time in their history.

The values given above are incredible, there are many crackers in there but the price tags on James Tavernier and Todd Cantwell are among the funniest.

In nine years of almost constant failure Captain Disappointed hasn’t attracted any outside interest other than the Daily Record led campaign that Steven Gerrard is going to swoop for his former penalty taker.

At 32 Tavpen is slowing up month by month, pricing players in euros does seem exciting but in no planet is any club shelling out £6m for the former Wigan Athletic utility man.

Similarly Todd Cantwell was available for £1m from Norwich in January 2023, no English club wanted to know but Micky Beale looked him in the eyes and decided to build his Revolution around the celebrity C-lister.

There is virtually no interest in any of the Ibrox squad, no pre-contract deals were struck for free agents like John Lundstram, Ryan Jack, Borna Barisic and Kemar Roofe. Two years after they appeared in a European final.

Connor Goldson was a free agent two weeks after Aaron Ramsey’s historic penalty in Seville but found no takers, instead taking up Plan B of four years easy money at Ibrox.

The anticipated clear out isn’t happening, when Phil Clement gathers his squad for pre-season training towards the end of June some very familiar faces will still be around knowing that outside of Ibrox they just aren’t rated.

The author of the tweet is expected to make an appearance on Sportsound tomorrow as Kenny Macintyre, Tom English, Alasdair Lamont and Jane Lewis attempt to raise morale through the close season.
