Carter-Vickers reacts to reports of continental interest

Cameron Carter-Vickers is reported to be very happy at Celtic with no interest in following up interest in him from Turkey.

The news came in a tweet from Larry Henry Junior, an American based reporter who has been very accurate with news on the defender since he was first linked to Celtic in July 2021.

Carter-Vickers extended his Celtic contract at the end of January, making it the second deal he had signed in less than 20 months which seems to be the modern way rather than waiting until the last 12-18 months before renegotiating.

This season has been very much stop start for the former Spurs defender who underwent knee surgery straight after Celtic’s victory in the semi-final of last season’s Scottish Cup.

It seems that there has been a price to pay for that this season with four different spells out of action but happily he has started Celtic’s last seven matches, with the exception of a wobble in this season’s Scottish Cup semi-final he has been the dominant force in a defence that has often looked vulnerable.

With a new goalkeeper required during the summer ensuring that Carter-Vickers remains at the club brings some continuity after the turbulence of this season.

Liam Scales has barely missed a match in central defence, when Carter-Vickers has been out injured the Irishman has been partnered by Stephen Welsh, Maik Nawrocki and Gus Lagerbielke. None of that trio of players have convinced Rodgers of their value with some movement likely in the summer, both incoming and outgoing.

Next season will be Carter-Vickers fourth at Celtic, provided the club looks like developing in Europe it seems that he is content to be involved despite others like Jota, Josip Juranovic, Carl Starfelt and Giorgos Giakoumakis from the 21/22 title winning squad moving on.

Next month there is every chance that the Celtic defender will be part of the USA squad taking part in the Copa America which runs from June 20 to July 14 which is just before Celtic play the first of three pre-season matches in the USA.

In March US boss Gregg Berhalter agreed to leave Carter-Vickers out of his squad to give him some rest ahead of a vital stage of the season but it seems likely that the Celtic defender will be involved in the Copa America where the USA as hosts will face Uruguay, Panama and Bolivia in the group phase.
