Yang Hyun-jun’s appeal against his sending off at Hearts will be heard on Tuesday afternoon when the Disciplinary Committee of the SFA have a meeting.
Don Robertson initially judged the incident to be worth a booking but after being prompted by John Beaton on VAR the decision was upgraded to a red card.
Going down to 10 men after 15 minutes was a major handicap for Celtic to take on board, made even more difficult by the repeat scenario just before half-time that awarded Hearts a penalty which George Grant converted to open the scoring
Ultimately the red card decision was taken by Robertson, his report will be assessed by the Referee Committee who will then decide whether or not the decision stands resulting in Yang missing the SPFL match against St Johnstone on March 16.
From Tuesday’s print edition the Daily Mail website reports:
The appeal against Yang’s red card will be heard by a disciplinary committee this afternoon, but Celtic’s anger stemmed beyond that one incident alone.
They were furious at the decision to award Hearts a penalty after Tomoki Iwata was penalised for a handball, with referee Robertson again consulting VAR.
Celtic’s statement questioning VAR adds another element to their appeal against the Yang decision.
If the appeal is successful it will instantly question the competence of Beaton and Robertson which was exactly the phrase that Rodgers used after the match in a variety of media interviews.
He also stated that the officials had decided the match, it is hard to argue against that conclusion if a mistake has resulted in your team playing for 75 minutes with a man short.
Tomorrow morning the SFA will announce the weekend officials for the four Scottish Cup ties, these appointments will have been lined up before the weekend events with Beaton or Steven McLean expected to be in charge of Sunday’s Scottish Cup tie when Hibs host Philippe Clement’s side at Easter Road.
