Championship club linked with move for Celtic winger

Celtic winger Mikey Johnston is being reported as a transfer target for Norwich City by their local publisher, The Pink Un.

Johnston has been in and out of the Celtic side over the last two months but with Nicolas Kuhn signed from Rapid Vienna and Liel Abada returning from injury it is hard to see him nailing down a regular starting place under Brendan Rodgers.

The congested Championship fixture list with 46 matches would offer Johnston increased playing time if he wants to go down that route.

After 29 matches Norwich are sitting in ninth place, two points behind Coventry City in the final play off spot.

The Pink Un report has been  prompted by a report in the Daily Record from transfer specialist Scott Burns. The report covers Johnston’s recent appearances alongside comments from Brendan Rodgers.

A trimming of the Celtic squad was expected this month but it has been slow progress to date with Kwon Hyeok-kyu’s loan move to St Mirren the only deal completed in addition to players that were already out on loan.

Gus Lagerbielke appears to be close to joining Lecce on loan but expectations over others leaving this month appear to have been ambitious.

A striker appears to be at the top of Celtic’s requirements with Bologna’s Sydney van Hooijdonk strongly linked to the club his Dad starred for in the mid-nineties.

In the lead up to the transfer window opening Brendan Rodgers put an emphasis on bringing in quality, players ready to go into the first team and make an impact ahead of project/development types.

The Celtic boss isn’t expected to hold any media conferences before the window closes on Thursday night, straight afterwards the hoops face a very testing run of fixtures away to Aberdeen, Hibs and St Mirren.
