With one knock-out post on Instagram Jota seems to have soothed the break-up pains of all but the most hardline Celtic supporters.
The fans are well used to seeing their heroes leave but generally it is all well sign posted. Interest surfaces, there is some media toing and froing before the deal is done and you have to be braced for regular updates with last season’s hero in different colours. Apparently it is business.
Jota’s sudden move to Al Ittihad was a shock to the system- perhaps the most ‘attached’ of Ange’s imports and certainly the only one to drop into the Brazen Head.
After the shock of the move there was something of a void in the deal, Al Ittihad took over cherished images of Jota with the yellow and black airbrush treatment.
It was almost as if Celtic hadn’t really happened, two seasons of goals, memories and celebrations wrapped in double-denim and a bumblebee top had just been created by AI.
And then, late on Sunday afternoon there was a very impassioned message. Something a bit different, not just ticking off a chore in the Social Media checklist.
Suddenly questions were answered, he had been involved just as fully, the fans hadn’t been dumped in the middle of the night. Perhaps like Brendan he might have some unfinished business to return to.
Anyone doubting Jota’s love for Celtic needs a good reality check.
His efforts, passion & enthusiasm at Celtic Park is some of the greatest I’ve seen at this club.
Two years ago he was on the fringes at Benfica, now he’s known worldwide.
An opportunity too good, best wishes 💚 pic.twitter.com/KwM4YTvLAk

This boy is class, thoughtful, intelligent, constructs thoughts and sentences most of us can’t convey and it’s not his first language. If you ever need a selling tool to any players not sure about coming here, just show them this!

Totally agree. The lad was a diamond. Turned up , played well, embraced the club. He’s no a Celtic fan glesga boy like Calum or a Jamesy (Prestwick I know). Tierney went with best wishes. The wee guy is protecting himself and his next 3 generations. Good on him. 💚

Sad to see him go. Was brilliant for 2 seasons, our type of player. We make a massive profit and wish him well. Everyone wins.

No longevity in football, it’s a business! No one player or manager will stay nowadays, I don’t understand why people get so attached to players…it’s their job,any of us what do the same! He came and made his mark, special player and I wish him the best

I get folk not being arsed either way – if a player leaves Celtic that’s it. But it’s just weird to give him any hate IMO… Gave us a good few years, loads of highlights and made us a wedge. Cheers and good luck.

He bought into Celtic more than many that walked before him, the good news is that there will be another hero along at some point soon🍀🍀🍀
