Listen as Postecoglou reveals Rodgers messaging him from the day that he started at Celtic

Ange Postecoglou has revealed that Brendan Rodgers has been messaging him since he took charge of Celtic two years ago.

The Irishman had just helped Leicester win the FA Cup for the first time in their history when the former Yokohama F Marinos boss walked in to pick up the pieces at Celtic following the Lockdown season.

Postecoglou faced Champions League qualifiers just over a month after taking charge while in the middle of a massive rebuilding phrase- managing the departures of Kris Ajer, Odsonne Edouard, Olivier Ntcham and Ryan Christie.

Doing all that while learning about your backroom staff was a daunting task but one of the few men that understood the demands of managing Celtic provided some backing from afar.

He’s a fantastic manager and he loves that football club. He was constantly messaging me while I was Celtic manager to make sure that I stayed on track and we had success.

I’ve exchanged messages with him him. To be fair, when I got the role he was very, very supportive at the start.

Even when I got this role, he sent me a nice message and I’ve reciprocated and stayed in contact with him and all the staff there.

I’ve no doubt they’ll have great success. Hopefully, they can make an impact in the Champions League, I know that’s what his ambition is. That group of players and staff certainly have the capability of doing that, hopefully that happens.

It seems fairly clear that Rodgers retained a close connection with Celtic despite the fall out from his move to Leicester City in February 2019.

No one could have predicted the events of springtime 2023 with Rodgers replacing Postecoglou at Celtic with both men falling into jobs and challenges that they relish.
