Walsh re referees it and thinks it’s clear and obvious… did Walsh see the touch on the ball from Johnston? …mmm
How does finishing bottom of a gentle group serve a squad well? Am I missing something? This season’s Champions League was a wasted opportunity and would have done more harm than good, I suspect.
But Brendan Rodgers has to take responsibility. I can’t think of one player this season at Celtic who he has improved and that’s on the manager.
Idah kept himself detached and focussed, some fans couldn’t bare to watch but the on loan striker stepped up to score his second penalty of the night to deliver three precious points from a fixture that looked to be slipping away.
Two years on from his move to Scotland O’Riley is in absolute top form, Celtic fans know what is likely to come next but that can’t be considered in mid-season as Sutton pointed out as he reacted to the story that broke just before lunchtime today.
So now it’s up to Kuhn to prove him correct. Quite simply, Rodgers has to stand and fall by signings. Every manager does.
That’s no slight on Taylor who keeps doing the job, but he needs to be properly backed-up at the very least and upgraded if possible, especially with the Champions League in mind.
Does that mean a ready-made, tried and tested player who would cost a great deal more money? I’m not disputing what he says. But I’m sceptical about who Celtic can sign in any position that is an upgrade and who’s not going to cost a lot of money.
Callum McGregor and Matt O’Riley are very obvious choices for any select side from the first part of the season but there are arguments for and against the others included by Sutton.
More importantly Celtic are away at Aberdeen on February 4 then at Hibs three days later, barring injury Kyogo will be available for both matches.
