After a flurry of speculation last week it seems that Gus Lagerbielke isn’t on the brink of leaving Celtic.
Bologna and Lecce were reported to be showing interest in taking the defender on loan but that can be a risky situation for the player and his parent club.
Unless a guarantee to purchase is included in the package it is likely that Lagerbielke would be moving as a back up option and could be just as rusty at the end of the season when he returns to Celtic.
To his credit the 23-year-old contributed towards a clean sheet and victory in the Glasgow Derby, scored a winning goal in Celtic’s first Champions League win in six years and also scored for Sweden.
Behind those highlights he seems to have slipped to fifth choice central defender at Celtic even allowing for the departure of Nat Phillips back to Liverpool.

Exits are also likely in Glasgow’s east-end. Kwon has already left on loan to St Mirren but Gustaf Lagerbielke is no closer to finding a new club despite Italian interest. Another two may be heading to other Scottish destinations.
Record Sport has revealed that Motherwell have made their move to sign Adam Montgomery after he was recalled from a loan at League One side Fleetwood Town south of the border. MacKenzie Carse meanwhile is poised to join Queen’s Park in the Scottish Championship according to Football Scotland’s report.
With a five year contract Lagerbielke’s finances are pretty secure but his prospects of seeing much football this season at Celtic look bleak.
Unless a very attractive deal is put to the player he seems likely to stay on at Celtic until the summer when he can look at a fresh start elsewhere.
Lagerbielke’s move to Celtic was completed on August 16 meaning that he had missed out on pre-season training which offers time to adapt to the demands and culture of a new club.
Yosuke Ideguchi has left Celtic for Vissel Kobe on a permanent basis but it looks like most outbound deals this month will be on loan but probably won’t be on the scale that Rodgers is looking for to reduce the size of his squad to a more manageable level.
