Liel Abada has signed a new Celtic contract, keeping him with the club until 2027.
The timing, announced on Transfer Deadline Day, seems a little strange but after recent speculation that he could be on the move Celtic fans will be delighted by tonight’s news.
Post World Cup, Daizen Maeda nailed down the left- wing position in Ange Postecoglou’s side, with Jota switched to the right Abada found most of his appearances coming off the bench.
That sparked speculation that the winger would be looking for a summer move but with Jota sold to Al Ittihad the chances of Celtic agreeing to Abada being transferred were reduced.
Arriving in July 2021 as the first major signing of Ange Postecoglou the 19-year-old winger got off to a flying start with a goal against Midtjylland then quickly forming a great understanding with Kyogo Furuhashi.
Coming in off the right wing Abada carried a real scoring threat with 20 plus goals and assists in both seasons.

Bearing in mind his pre-Celtic status the winger wouldn’t have been among the highest paid players at the club but for an extra year on his contract that issue has probably been addressed.
With Callum McGregor, Kyogo and Maeda on renewed deals there is a core of experience through the Celtic side that know the expectations and demands of playing for the most successful club in Scotland.
The contract issue has perhaps been hovering in the background in recent months, with that resolved he can look forward to another Champions League campaign and hopefully a big impact in Sunday’s Glasgow Derby.
Three wingers have been signed by Celtic during the current window but with his own extension and pay rise Abada appears to be the man in possession of the jersey.
