Where is Kris Boyd? Sky Sports’ Scottish expert goes AWOL

There was one smiling face missing as Celtic beat Dundee United 5-0 to clinch the 24/25 SPFL Premiership title. Where art Kris Boyd?

For the best part of a decade the former Kilmarnock star has been the face of Sky Sports coverage of Scottish football.

But not yesterday, while the title was being decided Boyd was 500 miles away from Dundee feigning an interest in Brighton beating West Ham as he tries to shut out the pain and hurt of another Celtic title success. With Chris Sutton revelling in the miseries of his broadcasting buddy.

Boyd might be the daftest man in his Ayrshire village but he might be quite close to that title with his constant attempts to troll Celtic fans.

It takes virtually nothing to get him into gear, the slightest piece of good news from Ibrox is seized on, this is the game changer, this is the true Revolution with Happy Days on their way to Ibrox.

Meanwhile, in the real world Celtic pick up the trophies, 120 in total with this season’s SPFL Premiership title the 55th time that they’ve been champions of Scotland. A number that even Boyd knows the significance of.

Jackie McNamara stood in for Boyd yesterday, providing some sound analysis and perspective on  a clash between two clubs that he knows well.

Jamie McFadden adds next to nothing to any event with his expert views, if you appear on BBC Scotland any credibility you have is shot to pieces.

Sutton pulls in the viewing figures, he knows the game and the media, he adds to the occasion which is a rarity in the Scottish media bubble which Neil McCann and Billy Dodds will soon return to. Alex Rae has also recently been dabbling.

Boyd’s team did draw 2-2 away to St Mirren yesterday, after the match Barry Ferguson was pure raging with his flops but during the week the battle fever will return ahead of hosting the champions at Ibrox on Saturday.

Trailing by 17 points and 47 goals worse off the final Glasgow Derby will see Boyd back in front of the cameras, sharing his wisdom and insight into Scottish football.

When Celtic won last season’s title with a 5-0 win away to Kilmarnock Boyd cut a lonely figure in the Rugby Park Stand as the celebrations went on around him.

On May 17 Celtic will be presented with their trophy, for the 13th time in 14 seasons, Boyd will again be AWOL although his ‘Rangers are coming’ cardboard cut out could make another appearance.
