Shameful silence from Celtic as media sets dangerous agenda

Three weeks after the Scottish Cup win at Ibrox Celtic have let their legacy media partners set the narrative.

Bar the most wishy-washy interview with Brian Wilson there has been not a peep from Celtic over the not so shocking incidents at Ibrox.

Celtic players were physically attacked on the pitch. A member of the Celtic medical team was also attacked.

A flare was fired into the Broomloan Road Stand filled by celebrating Celtic supporters.

Barely any of that has been mentioned by Celtic’s media partners.

Pages and pages, alongside hours of broadcast time have been devoted to some graffiti prompting a variety of comments from the big wigs at Ibrox. Lovingly relayed on by media partners.

Some messengers claimed that such was the damage done to the Broomloan Road Stand that the match against Aberdeen on March 21 was in doubt. Structural damage was hinted at. Needless to say the match was played exactly as scheduled.

Every 10 days Police Scotland announce that two fans have been arrested in connection with incidents at the match.

Hundreds were on the pitch after the final whistle. Most of them unmasked, many in their thirties or above.

While the Broomloan Road Stand was open as usual against Aberdeen , so to was the Copland Front sections filled to overflowing by the Union Bears.

Business as usual. Deflection central.

No action on the attacks on Celtic players, staff and fans. The big issue was some graffiti. This in the city where KAT is scrawled in many districts.

Where 40,000 plus can add their vile add-ons to a club anthem and the broadcaster refuses to make any comment, Condemnation? Forget it, this is Glasgow 2026.

Facilitated by the Celtic board. Led by Michael Mute Nicholson.

CELTIC ON THE BACK-FOOT, PASSIVE ACCEPTANCE

The CEO that has watched a physio permanently disfigured at Ibrox without comment. Matt O’Riley and Vil Sinisalo have had glass bottles thrown at them. Arne Engels felled by a missile.

When broken glass appeared at half-time in Joe Hart’s goal-mouth Mute Mike said nothing. Preserving his beloved O** F*** brand is more important than providing basic safety to club employees.

Anything goes in that fixture. Having nodded through the Five Way Agreement in 2012 Celtic aren’t going to start calling out attacks of players, staff of fans.

Wilson sounded like a neutral as he described the aftermath of the penalty shoot-out. He stopped just short of apologising for Martin O’Neill’s side winning the cup tie.

He said:

The highest profile aspect of this (the post match hysteria) was after the penalties and Celtic had won.

What you had there was a euphoric response from our supporters. It is not uncommon. It has happened on numerous occasions this season alone in Scottish football where you have an overspill onto the pitch.

That in itself does not usually draw expressions of condemnation. What I would say is that I welcome the SFA’s intention to have a full inquiry.

Let’s look at the evidence. If there’s evidence of violence, if there’s evidence of threats of violence, then of course I will condemn that – but let’s look at the evidence before we create maybe a false narrative.

And with that Celtic have sat back and let others reset the reality of the aftermath.

Following the Ibrox messengers there were selective comments from the Police Federation shared.

Apparently overcrowding in the Broomloan Road Stand was the root of the problems.

THE BLAME GAME? BLAME CELTIC FANS

Celtic fans had a dangerous obstacle course to endure to gain entry. Maybe 50 forced entry, thousands went through multiple ticket checks before they got near the turnstiles.

For European matches at Ibrox the passageways are almost impossible to pick out in the Copland Road and Sandy Jardine front sections.

Overcrowding in an issue for the host club.

The scenes that grabbed headlines and attention were caused by home fans in their hundreds coming onto the pitch looking for trouble. Indulging in violence.

Attacking Celtic players, staff and fans. Attacking Police Officers and Stewards.

Those issues have been deflected towards graffiti.

Celtic are sitting back waiting on an inquiry from the SFA.

Fans that were on the pitch, attacking Celtic players, staff and fans will be welcomed to Celtic Park for the final Glasgow Derby of the season.

Nothing says more about the leadership of the club than their cowardly reaction to the events of March 8 at Ibrox. Even though there is a lengthy list of cowardly actions under CEO Nicholson.

Perhaps he is still upset that his original plan for the Sydney Super Cup in 2022 never became reality. Marketing and monetising the most toxic and vile aspect of Celtic.
