Rattled Wilfried Nancy achieves the near impossible

Wilfried Nancy achieved the bear impossible during today’s media conference. He trashed what is left of his credibility even further.

The Frenchman went off on one centred around a seven minute rant that pushed Celtic to the headline act on Sky Sports News.

Friday’s tend to be full of dull, guarded managers saying very little beyond stringing predictable buzzwords together.

Nancy was neither dull or guarded. Crazed and unhinged would be better descriptions.

Most football managers tell lies that they don’t read or listen to the media. They never look at social media although they seem to have a grasp of what is trending.

Nancy demolished the claim that he doesn’t take note of what is being said about him.

With five defeats in seven matches he has been savaged by Celtic fan media. Legacy titles have turned him into a laughing stock.

After losing to Motherwell he claimed to have been encouraged by certain aspects of Celtic’s performance.

Memo To Wilf: Treating fans with contempt is never wise, leave that to those in the Celtic boardroom.

There is doubling down and there is the exercise that Nancy dived into today.

He had a lot of anger to release when he met Celtic’s specially selected media partners.

Nancy spoke fast then slow. He raised his voice then whispered. Then he laughed at his own answers. He even started whistling at one stage!

TIME?

Martin O’Neill wasn’t given time. He was on TalkSPORT on Monday and in the Celtic dug-out two days later.

There were 37 days between the resignation of Brendan Rodgers and the appointment of Nancy.

He had ample time to weigh up the job offer, to decide if he could implement a 3-4-3 formation on the squad that he inherited.

O’Neill have him the perfect handover. Seven domestic wins plus a Europa League lifeline thanks to a win in Feyenoord.

Nancy was given the opportunity to go to the top of the SPFL and lift a trophy in his first two matches. He lost both. Quickly followed by gifting Dundee United and Motherwell their first wins over Celtic in a decade.

NANCY THINKS WINNING IS IMPORTANT

No manager should be stating that ‘he knows games are important’. It is their job to win these important games. At every club for every manager every game is important.

Nancy has no grasp of Celtic, their position, the expectations.

Managing Scotland’s most successful club is a job for very few managers. If you want an easy life developing players, creating better human beings then there are other options out there.

Celtic regularly win 90 plus points in the SPFL. In most matches they have more than 60% possession, sometimes over 80%.

NANCY NOISE

Noise is the legitimate concerns and worries of the Celtic support.

They have been concerned since Kyogo Furuhashi was sold in January without being replaced.

The summer window was horrific, no fan was shocked by defeat to Kairat Almaty. That and other events created the Celtic Fans Collective. At last a force to hold Nicholson and his cronies to account.

The Noise will always be there. It can be controlled by delivering results on the park, an issue that Nancy has yet to grasp.

NANCY’S BACK 3/4/5

Whatever he wants to label it it isn’t working.

To most fans Nancy is playing a back three. Normally that system consists of three physical centre-backs because going with two isn’t working.

Not with Nancy!

Auston Trusty is the lone central defender with two attacking full-backs on either side.

It is incredibly difficult to pull off. Even with the most gifted squad of players in Europe it would be a stretch.

At the start of December, after two training sessions Nancy imposed his cherished 3-4-3 on the Celtic squad to face Hearts. Celtic lost and have been losing almost ever since.
