Celtic bail out the Daily Record and their favoured messengers

Celtic have been lending a helping hand to their friends at the Daily Record, again.

On Tuesday the Record and the other favoured messengers were invited to Lennoxtown to chat to Kieran Tierney about his European experiences.

With a gap between the match at Auchinleck and the pre-match coverage of the Bologna game Celtic stepped in to fill that awkward gap.

Off they all trotted, down the hill from Lennoxtown to file a nice space filler rather than look into the utter shambles that Celtic has become.

STORY THAT THE RECORD WON’T GO NEAR

An interview with Michael Nicholson would be far more worthwhile but by throwing a few crumbs towards desperate publishers Celtic can avoid proper scrutiny.

CEO Nicholson seemed quite media friendly when he was blabbing away to Gerry McCulloch about Wilfried Nancy.

Since January the ‘leading sports lawyer’ has went back onto mute. His favourite mode as he drains £17,000 a week out of Celtic, providing nothing in return.

Those world class ambitions won’t go away. Take a look at how Nicholson has shaped the club Academy and Recruitment set ups.

By giving the Record, Sun, Herald, Daily Mail and Scotsman some knock about content the major failings of Celtic are shielded.

The reporters involved had a cracking yarn about the teenage KT driving home in his Ford Fiesta after playing against Robin van Persie.

What’s not to like about that two thirds of the way through another transfer window failure?

Celtic and their friends in need.

Out of all the messengers the Record is the one that trashes Celtic with most glee. This dates back to long before their THUGS AND THIEVES story from December 2002.

Celtic now have a very strong alternative media network provided by fan sites.

In good times that is great. In bad times supporters will hold the club to account, make demands, ask the awkward questions.

Since December 3 access for fan media outlets has been ‘under review’. Much like the suspension of the Green Brigade.

Record, Celtic, Blade

Shortly before Christmas the Record was splashing with the ‘open blade’ story from Tannadice.

Apparently one Celtic fan was threatening club directors with an open blade during the 2-1 defeat away to Dundee United. Incredible stuff.

Not only did the fan taunt Nicholson and chums with a blade but he brazenly lent over a police cordon to do so!

OPEN BLADE FANTASY

Of course it was complete garbage. Fantasy reporting from the Record. The open blade story was instantly trashed on social media. The blade was a high viz police belt.

Was there an apology from the Record to the Celtic support? Not a chance.

Did Celtic speak out about the blatant lie published by a media partner? Not a chance, the Record has an open invite to Lennoxtown and matchday access.

The Record was used to spread the word that Wilfried Nancy was the big emerging talent in soccer management. Readers were given profiles of the MLS coach of the year. That exercise didn’t end well.

And then there was the recent trashing of Jota. Apparently he is having a laugh through his rehab with no urgency to get match fit.

Another garbage story.

If the Record and Celtic showed the same levels of dedication and professionalism as Jota they wouldn’t both be in the gutter. Together. Some might say Better Together, Brian Wilson certainly would.
