Celtic hand Nancy update to trusted media partner

Celtic have been briefing their media partners about their backing for Wilfried Nancy.

After four successive defeats to mark his arrival most Celtic fans are in open revolt over the Frenchman who claims that performances are improving.

At 12.45 today Peter Martin tweeted that talks were being held to discuss sacking Nancy.

NANCY TURNAROUND?

It took Celtic 37 days to replace Brendan Rodgers, a fortnight later there is a real expectation of further change.

Following Martin’s tweet a number of legacy media outlets trashed the claim, quoting their un-named Celtic source.

On PLZ Soccer at 3pm Martin was standing by his claim but the working day, and closing of the Stock Market passed without another club statement.

Tonight Sky Sports reported:

Nancy has had a routine chat with the club hierarchy to discuss the plans going forward, recruitment, as well as wider topics of adapting to life in Scotland and security.

Mentioning security is another nod towards the contrived excuses given for Peter Lawwell retiring as Chairman.

Sky Sports News understands the club chiefs are on board with Nancy’s vision for Celtic and have been fully supportive of his desire to change the system immediately.

It is believed they feel they are getting a better idea of which current squad members can fit into the new system, to focus on which areas will need recruitment in the January and summer transfer windows.

Any competent club would already have their January signing identified and progressed.

TRANSFER PERFECTION

On 31 December 2021 Celtic announced the signings of Daizen Maeda, Reo Hatate and Yosuke Ideguchi.

Since then Celtic fans have been fed the line that signing players in January is notoriously difficult. Matt O’Riley was signed on January 14, on February 2 he played a key role with Reo Hatate in a famous Glasgow Derby.

That match, the 3-0 scoreline and the manner of the performance propelled Celtic forward towards four SPFL title wins.

After that transfer window Frank Trimboli stepped aside, Mark Lawwell came in to lead Recruitment and Scouting.

When you have a strong manager like Ange Postecoglou or Brendan Rodgers you can cover up for the multiple failings inside a club.

Like scouting, recruitment and developing Academy players through into the first team.

Nancy is not a strong manager.

Wilfried Nancy, Celtic

NANCY- NO PEDIGREE

He is a North American soccer coach that has moderate ability and got lucky. Before joining Celtic he had been in North America for 20 years.

As a player Nancy played less than 30 matches for French lower division clubs, the highlight was almost getting a move to Carlisle United.

The current Celtic manager had a mediocre playing career and has an average record in four years in management.

People claiming that he was the best coach in the MLS probably believed that Micky Beale was the most exciting young manager in the UK when he left QPR for Ibrox.

Talk is cheap, spin and manipulation is easy. The bloated media circuit devours it all.

Preparing for Sunday’s match against Aberdeen, Celtic face a multitude of issues.

A lame duck manager is fronting things for a board that has lost its Chairman.

The team is in free-fall. In 2024 Celtic lost two matches, over 10 days Nancy has lost four times.

Celtic’s captain hasn’t given the manager his backing in a media conference, rumours suggest that the goalkeeping coach is leaving.

Friday will likely see another frenzy of speculation. Anything is possible with the attempted managed decline that started with the sale of Kyogo in January has spun well out of control.
