Kris Boyd wasn’t cracking many gags when he provided Sky Sports News with his verdict on the 2-0 defeat from Hearts at Ibrox.
Normally the former Kilmarnock striker is the life and soul of the party, sharing the laughs with Paul Merson and Clinton Morrison with his in-depth football knowledge topped off with cheeky banter.
Boyd revels in the image of being the Village Idiot, even to Merson, as he piles up the payments as the voice of Scottish football for Sky Sports.
Recently Boyd has been trying to put the boot into Celtic with Brendan Rodgers a constant target of criticism.
Whatever is going on at Celtic Rodgers is about to see off another Ibrox boss, adding Martin to his collection with Barry Ferguson sitting by his phone with his brogues polished and the petrol tank filled up on his orange People Carrier.
At every Celtic match the only comment Boyd has is that Rodgers ‘wasted £26m on Adam Idah, Arne Engels and Auston Trusty’. It took him six months to pick up on that message, now that he has found it he can’t let go, without doubt it will be aired again on Sunday at Rugby Park.
SHANKLAND’S DOUBLE
Many bears have gone on about how Lawrence Shankland would score for fun at Ibrox, he certainly did today. He is the leading scorer in the SPFL at Ibrox this season, one ahead of Tavpen and Dundee’s Ryan Ashley.
Within 10 minutes of the match starting it was clear that the home side were beaten, the toxic atmosphere is suffocating the players with Martin cranking things up WITH his treatment of Nicky Raskin.
Hearts took the lead midway through the first half, there was a brief rally from the home side midway through the second half but netting with the rebound of his 82nd minute penalty Shankland secured the points for Hearts.
The cousins in the corner were in full gloating mode, it was their first win over the Tribute Act since Lockdown, the hammerings under Robbie Neilson and Steven Naysmith wiped away in 90 minutes plus seven of stoppage time from Steven McLean.
Near to tears Boyd said:
Terrible, Simon, terrible from right from the start. You know, one team looked organized defensively and in sync going forward and that was Hearts.
Rangers at home failed to lay a glove on Hearts. You know, topped off with the Hearts fans singing, “You’re getting sacked in the morning.” And Rangers fans joined in with it. That’s how bad it was.
I don’t see any way back from from this for Russell Martin. You can cut new managers some slack if you can see, you know, slight improvement game to game, but it’s actually going the other way. It’s getting worse for Rangers.
No wins in five, sitting tenth in the league, it’s pretty embarrassing to say the least.
At the all-in media conference after the match Martin had a very heated exchange with some of the bears given access to speak to the manager.
With chants of ‘Martin, Martin, Get Tae F**k’ echoing round the stadium the hipster boss was off down the tunnel as soon as the final whistle blew.
WALKING AWAY
Almost every fan and reporter inside Ibrox wants Martin sacked, the fan media lads were all over in yesterday in their dual roles.
Wee Stevie from Four Lads Had a Team and David ‘Heart & Hand’ Edgar led the attack, they were more fans than media as they argues with Martin.
Casually flicking his hair back and answering questions without his trademark flick the worst manager in the clubs 13 year history is just waiting on the phone call from his agent to confirm that his pay off has been sorted, he can pack his bags and head back south.
Boyd can then get all high and mighty over who is next to manage at Ibrox, tell Merse and Clinton that it is a huge club that demands winning while those two point and snigger at James Tavernier and Jack Butland.
NOW ONTO KILMARNOCK
Boyd will be on duty at Kilmarnock today, pre-match he’ll be getting would up about the state of events at Ibrox, if Celtic win on the plastic it will complete another weekend of misery for the former Killie striker.
Chris Sutton won’t be holding back as he winds up his Sky Sports colleague, Boyd’s voice will rise up through the decibels with viewers of every club bar one revelling in his pain and anguish.
The Russell Revolution won’t last anywhere near as long as the Pedro Caixinha Revolution in 2017 but Boyd will soon have his pom-poms out and cheering away for the next Ibrox gaffer in the forlorn hope that a trophy might somehow find its way to Ibrox.
