An attempt by Michael Nicholson to marginalise the Celtic fans on Saturday went from being simply horrendous to utterly disgraceful.
As if using The Sun newspaper to attack former Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers wasn’t bad enough, the Celtic CEO managed to put out a Saturday night statement that took “Rolling A Jobby In Glitter” to unprecedented new heights.
Such is the level of anger aimed at the Celtic CEO that his attempt to bury bad news at a time when no-one is generally paying attention backfired- spectacularly. Fans saw straight through the timing and content instantly.
The statement issued by the North Curve last week was clear, concise and reasonable.
So much so, the number of CSCs, fan groups and media outlets signing up to the document has grown steadily all week.
Despite the anger felt by fans, the North Curve statement simply asks the club to engage with fans and answer seven simple questions.
Questions that shouldn’t have to be asked, about the direction the club is taking, things we should already know.
That the Celtic hierarchy thought that an anonymous 1,000 plus word salad written in the most condescending tone would placate fans is truly shocking.
And it confirms all of our worst fears – they are not just out of touch with us Celtic fans, they are living on another planet.
Nicholson’s media strategies have failed miserably.
That guy on twitter nobody had heard of talking about working 24/7 – not having it.
Roger Hannah from the newspaper still boycotted across the city of Liverpool – whoopsy.
Anonymous Insider quotes in the Sun, unsigned rambling diatribes on the club website, it’s much, much worse than we dared imagine.
An international break gave them the chance, once again, to address the issues and build some bridges with the Celtic support.
But instead, a couple of truly laughable attempts to deflect responsibility have antagonised an already angry support.
I’m not going to address the content of the club statement because it does not need to be addressed.
There is no moving the goalposts here – the North Curve statement is out there for all to see.
And it needs to be addressed.
To engage with the ludicrous drivel issued by Nicholson is to entirely miss the point.
This is a united Celtic support asking the questions and we want answers.
Nicholson now has three weeks to address the North Curve statement supported by tens of thousands is Celtic fans before we are at home to Hibs.
A chance to remove the inevitable side show at that match of fans demonstrating to the board, demanding to be listened to.
Saturday’s pointless statement only worsened the situation, these outdated deflection tactics simply won’t work any more.
- What is the club’s long-term footballing strategy, and when and how will this be communicated to supporters?
- Why has there been no investment in critical positions in the team despite repeated pleas from the manager, obvious weaknesses in the squad and calls from supporters?
- What accountability measures are in place for repeated failures in transfer dealings?
- How do you intend to modernise the club’s structure to compete in Europe, and why are we consistently unprepared for qualification stages?
- When will supporters receive the results of the ‘fan survey’ conducted over a year ago, and why have these not yet been released despite being in the club’s possession for several months?
- Why have the results of the Fairhurst Inquiry not been made public, and what action will the club take to protect supporters from unlawful and disproportionate policing in the future?
- Why does the club continue to resist working with supporters to improve matchday atmosphere, supporter experience and consultation on key issues such as ticket pricing and distribution?
Over to you Michael, you were able to approve someone running to The Sun to trash the manager, you signed off on a pointless, nameless statement that confirmed how out of touch you are, now you can get round to answering some questions that you’ve had a good few days to prepare for.
What’s the secret Mikey Bhoy?

The board strategy is really simple keep taking increasing amounts of money from the fans and treat them as an irrelevance- answer is equally simple stop giving them your money

Surely a real visible show of contempt for the board at the next game is required? 50,000 red cards or flags perhaps

Hi John
It’s heading that way, which is a complete distraction from supporting the team when they need us most.
But the fans have been ignored for long enough, treated like dirt in the stadium we spend small fortunes on to attend.
If they choose to ignore the open letter from the north curve for a full month, demonstrations at the game seem inevitable.
