Watch the red card rant from McCoist that has Hutton laughing at Ibrox legned

Ally McCoist turned full on Rab C Nesbitt as he shared his expert analysis on the Europa League action from Ibrox last night.

The cheeky chappie is full of gags and banter when he is watching any English side in action, last night he stopped just short of ‘Ah’ll tell you this boy’ with his appearance increasingly matching the Govan street philosopher made famous by Gregor Fisher in the eighties.

Putting it bluntly McCoist was an absolute mess. When Alex Rae and Allan Hutton have to correct you and calm you down it really is time to take stock. If McCoist wont then perhaps TNT Sport should examine the contract details of their deal with the 62-year-old.

Anyone with a passing knowledge of the Laws of the Game knows what was coming the way of Robin Propper when he hacked down Nico Williams 20 yards from goal.

The home defender was caught flat footed as his opponent skipper in on goal, Williams was denied a goal scoring opportunity with McCoist and Rory Hamilton both going into full deflection mode over why a penalty wasn’t awarded.

Fortunately the only Scottish match officials at Ibrox were sitting in the stands, referee Itavan Kovaks was called over to the VAR monitor with the inevitable action taken.

After his match-time rant McCoist went overboard at the final whistle, he may well have been playing to the loyal gallery but Hutton and Rae were both able to take a more detached rational approach.

There was nothing debatable or borderline about the decision to send off Propper. Whether it is the 13th or 83rd minute when you are left for dead by your opponents 20 yards from goal and wipe him out from having a shot at goal then a red card follows.

Even Steven McLean, John Beaton and Don Robertson would struggle to stand by just a yellow card.

But not McCoist, oh no.

The sending off is nothing short of scandalous, I think. Don’t try and tell me ‘the laws of the game this, the laws of the game that’.

Anybody who has played the game at any level knows that is not a red card. It’s a disgraceful decision! And it spoils the game.

It’s not a sending off. If those are the laws of the game, the laws of the game are wrong!

It’s a tackle! It’s a mistimed tackle and a free-kick, you can’t be sending people off for that!

Doubling down he added:

I’m arguing the laws of the game are wrong. Guys, you canny be sending people off, that is a mistimed tackle, there’s no intention to prevent him getting a goal-scoring opportunity, it’s just a bad tackle.

Barry Ferguson had no issue with the sending off.

Propper will be suspended for next week’s return leg, balanced out by the return of John Souttar and Mohamed Diomande who missed last night’s match due to suspension.

There are major doubts over Bailey Rice, Ridvan Yilmaz and Dujon Sterling for the return leg with Bilbao knowing that any win takes them into a semi-final against Lyon or Manchester United with the final being played at their own San Mames Stadium on May 21.
