The airwaves have been swamped with self pity over the last week as grieving ‘Rangers’ fans brace themselves for further Celtic success.
After boasting about the Europa League exploits of Phil Clement’s exciting young team reality arrived in the shape of the Spiders, a mid table Championship club ending the hopes that a Scottish Cup success could cover up the multiple failings at the 2012 Tribute Act.
Yesterday Hamilton Accies beat Queens Park at Hampden making it three Championship defeats on the bounce for Callum Davidson’s side after going to Ibrox on the back of losing to Airdrie and Morton.
Despite all that bears like William from Port Glasgow still take comfort in the delusion that they support a big club with some sort of entitlement to success.
Over the last 12 years Annan, Peterhead, Hamilton Accies and Raith Rovers have won at Ibrox, in a two-legged SPFL Premiership play off Motherwell won home and away on a 6-1 aggregate.
Three trophies in a dozen years matches the record of St Johnstone but there is a huge elephant in the room that the bears won’t look at.
They know that they’ve been duped, they aren’t watching the club of Dave Murray, Walter Smith, big Eck and the Little General.
Those days are kaput, no fan under the age of 30 has legally bought a pint in a pub to celebrate a winning the league.
Celtic have surpassed the trophy count of both Ibrox clubs, they have won more Glasgow Derbies, their stadium is bigger as are revenues and profits, on every front Phil Clement’s side are the second best in the city although Queens Park fans may dispute that claim.
Reality is a place of almost unspeakable pain for callers like William, he could start by realising that it isn’t Rangers any more, Rangers died in 2012, something that deep down he knows to be true.

Patrick Stewart has become just another puppet for the likes of the Parks (Douglas and Graeme).
He is just doing what he is told, you know, Chief Executive you’d have thought that he’d go in to run the club as he sees fit. That’s clearly not happening, he is just answering to the likes of Park and Co, nothing is going to change.
Clement’s press conference (on Friday) was embarrassing, he just doesn’t get it, like he hasn’t even so much as apologised for last week’s defeat.
It just sums up what is wrong at the club just now. The lowering of standards over the last few years is disgraceful and sickening.
We’re not a big club any more, we’re only Rangers by name, big clubs don’t act like this, big clubs don’t lose to Queens Park then not sack their manager after it.
Nothing is going to change unless there is wholesale changes, that includes the board and the investors, they need to sell up to someone else.
Dave King has been trying for four years to sell his shares without a sniff of genuine interest.
When Douglas Park or John Bennett sell their shares they will recall their loans putting the club in danger with £20m of loose change not kicking around.
The stupidity of the fans is incredible, after almost 15 years of disastrous management across two clubs, half a dozen CEOs and various Chairman no one has grasped the issues. Not one sensible voice has emerged from the support, if they are there they know that they’d be called out and character assassinated for explaining the harsh truths of building a club from scratch but overwhelmed by demands and entitlement.
Hard work needs to be put in, smart appointments made and a medium term approach taken to delivering success. Sustainable success, not built on a £22m loss for one season.
Having swallowed the Same Club lie, the lie of being the World’s Most Successful Club and the lie of 55 titles it is clear that the last thing that Ibrox fans want is the truth and reality.
Patrick Stewart is attempting to bring that over the next few months, critical to the plan is sweet-talking the bears into renewing Season Tickets.
A few moonbeams to favoured media messengers should do the trick with news on exciting new signings alongside a True Blue manager like Derek McInnes, John Brown, Alex Rae or Barry Ferguson. Someone who apparently ‘gets it’ whatever that means.
Seeing fresh brogues climb the marble stair case will get the hearts pumping and the battle fever flowing, after that the Bank Accounts will be a pushover.
Celtic pushing for #title56 will also spur a reaction from the Gullible & Deluded but when the inevitable happens again callers like William will be back on-air bemoaning how the loyal bears have been duped again while demanding the removal of the ‘investors’ that have kept the Tribute Act alive longer than they deserved.
