Duped Again- Ibrox fans wake up to reality of King’s fakeover

Some Ibrox fans are starting to waken up and see through the media frenzy of their Takeover which was initially welcomed with off the radar levels of delight and glee.

On the back of a transformational WORLD EXCLUSIVE! From Keith Jackson their club had been transformed into a European super-power.

Plans for a new 70,000 seater stadium were being openly discussed with the loyal media messengers convinced that the bad times were over.

Kris Boyd and Barry Ferguson led the high-fiving as they rejoiced at the news of Celtic being put in their place.

While Jackson has been relentless with the good news a small spanner emerged at tea-time on Friday, 48 hours after the news broke, with Dave King admitting that

Much of what has been written in the press is speculative and incorrect. At this time no deal has been concluded with any investor.

That was alongside the news that the deal/fakeover was initiated by King, a man once described as a Glib and Shameless Liar by a South African judge.

Jackson’s initial story had the San Francisco 49ers stamped all over it as he glossed over with ‘multi-million pound investment’ which will lead to a summer spending splurge.

References to Leeds Chairman Paraag Marathe was dropped in not so subtly but there was also suggestions of an American consortium.

With networth of $9bn US there is absolutely no need for the San Francisco 49ers to get involved with a consortium, if they want something they can buy it outright, in cash.

Jackson’s blockbuster from Wednesday revealed:

Rangers are at the centre of a potentially transformative US led takeover bid – a deal that would see them bankrolled by the enormous financial muscle of the San Francisco 49ers.

The Daily Record has learned top-level discussions over a multi-million pound investment began before the turn of the year – and they are now believed to be at ‘an advanced stage’. And if an agreement can be thrashed out the Ibrox club stand to benefit from a major cash injection which would then fund a spending splurge in the summer transfer market.

Sources from south of the border have confirmed one of the key men behind the proposal is Leeds United chairman Paraag Marathe – the man in charge of the NFL giants’ investment arm, 49ers Enterprises. Marathe – who is also executive vice president of football operations in San Francisco – was the architect in chief of a takeover of the Elland Road Club which took a step closer to a Premier League return on Monday night with a dramatic late win over Sunderland.

It’s understood he is now part of a consortium – including at least one other high net worth American business mogul – which hopes to restore Rangers to the top of the Scottish game after years spent languishing in the shadow of Old Firm rivals Celtic.

On Day Three of the story Marathe has been bypassed with Andrew Cavanagh the focus of attention, someone with an internet profile similar to a billionaire from Motherwell that was introduced to Daily Record readers by Jackson in November 2010.

That has prompted Andy McGowan into action, an accountant and regular on the Heart & Hand podcast, someone that can see through the spin gushing out from the Record and Newsquest where Jonny McFarlane calls the shots at the Herald, Rangers Review and Glasgow Times.

Anyone questioning the moonbeams being fed to Ibrox fans is usually instantly condemned as a Timposter, it will be difficult to throw that claim at McGowan.

In their darkest hour, 10 days after Queens Park and a day after Celtic drew with Bayern Munich the Ibrox support were presented with all of their Christmas’ rolled into one. Season Ticket renewals begin in less than two months.

When the source is the Daily Record backed up by the Rangers Review anyone with working faculties would ask why they are pushing a story so strongly.

If something is too good to be true there is a very good chance that it isn’t true.

Cavanagh is just another speculator, being drawn into discussions with King is about as big a red flag as you are likely to find.

Since the WORLD EXCLUSIVE on Wednesday there hasn’t been a question asked to the five biggest shareholders at Ibrox, with a combined stake of just over 50% of the club.

The ‘consortium’ haven’t yet been identified never mind scrutinised to see if their wealth is on or off the radar.

With popcorn in hand the coming days should bring further top content as The Banter Years are transferred stateside.
