Media blackout over Adam Idah assault

For anyone that didn’t watch Celtic’s 2-0 win away to Kilmarnock the chances are that they will be completely in the dark about the 11th minute assault on Adam Idah.

With two sendings off to his name already those season Joe Wright jumped for a free kick with one aim- to crash his elbow into the face of the Celtic striker.

Wright didn’t need to look around, he knew who was marking him, who would be challenging for the ball and chose to injure his opponent.

Nick Walsh saw it clearly and blew for a free kick. As Idah lay on the plastic with blood coming from his nose the match referee opted to book the aggressor.

A deliberate elbow to the head is deemed as a yellow card, it is no surprise that Walsh and his Hampden band of brothers don’t get anywhere near UEFA and FIFA competitions.

Don Robertson on VAR is notorious for letting things go, in season 21/22 brutal assaults on David Turnbull and Yosuke Ideguchi required retrospective punishments.

Wright completed the match, after four minutes of treatment Idah was able to resume playing but wasn’t as effective as usual. Job done at the cost of a yellow card.

Seventy minutes later Reo Hatate was late going into a challenge and pulled up, Walsh decided to book him while Ian Crocker got terribly upset on Sky Sports.

His anger was picked up by the usual messengers, afterwards it was the easy option to ask Derek McInnes about to deflect away from his side’s defeat and the Idah assault.

Hatate could have been given a harsh red card in the 80th minute with his team leading 2-0.

In contrast Wright escaped an 11th minute red card for a head assault that left his opponent bloodied.

After the Hatate incident Liam Donnelly deliberately followed through on Kasper Schmeichel after he had cleared the ball, Walsh opted to book him with no evidence of a VAR check from Robertson.

There was still time for Fraser Murray to aim at kick at Tony Ralston’s chest, it landed closer to his neck. Walsh decided on another yellow, again Robertson opted out on VAR, when John Beaton suggested a VAR review on a booking for Yang Hyun-jun away to Hearts in March Robertson was only too happy to oblige with a red card for the Celtic winger.

During the upcoming international break Willie Collum will sit down with Gordon Duncan to whitewash over a month of honest mistakes, highlighting some soft options while ignoring the Idah assault.

Walsh will be back at the day job at Boclair Academy tomorrow, working on the fitness of the Murray Park starlets,

Remembrance celebrations are NOT COMPULSORY. There are places for remembrance celebrations where folk can choose to take part or not to take part. They have no place at public events and football grounds, theatres where they are forced on people.
