‘Biggest insult to The Rangers this year’ ‘This guy is just ripping the p**s’ ‘show him the door’ Dessers comments melt the internet

Cyriel Dessers is apparently a really lovely guy. Really, really lovely.

The media guys that get to interview the striker almost trip over themselves to praise the courtesy and honesty of the Ibrox ace.

However alongside James Disappointed Tavernier it is Dessers that is the target of the Ibrox boo boys. As captain Tav is an obvious target while Dessers gets it for the collection of sitters that he notches up game by game alongside the general useless nature of his play.

The problem is that Phil Clement has basically only had one fit striker since he took over as manager 13 months ago. Across two transfer windows the only striker that he has signed is Moroccan ‘starlet’ Hamza Igamane.

Dessers was upto his usual tricks on Thursday away to Olympiakos, during the first half it looked like his boots were on the wrong feet as he fluffed two chances.

Presented with a third, soon after the Greeks had gone in front. it was Dessers that popped in the equaliser, the hero of the night regardless of the abuse he was taking on social media.

The 29-year-old knows that he isn’t rated by Ibrox fans, to put it mildly but with a lucrative contract that runs until May 2027 the journeyman is well aware of his place in the striking food chain.

One post match interview with Radio Clyde on Thursday gave the game away. Dessers was too honest for his own good, passing on an insight to the Ibrox dressing room where the players know they are all sub-standard.

Telling the truth is best avoided in most professions, especially in football and at Ibrox of all places.

The delusions of the fans has created a ridiculously demanding set up, bang average players like Dessers that have achieved nothing worthwhile in their careers are expected to be transformed into serial winners.

Dessers is providing a decent scoring return, 21 goals last season but nothing meaningful in matches against Celtic where Kyogo Furuhashi and Adam Idah deliver game defining moments.

The Celtic duo have the benefit of far better team-mates and an identifiable style of play, the contrast between the two Glasgow teams is huge.

Dropped into the city with incredible demands and expectations Dessers is bemused by the criticism he gets, he is scoring at a better rate than at any time in his career but it’s not good enough for the bears fearing that Celtic are about to overtake the combined trophy haul of both Ibrox clubs.

Turning 30 next month Dessers knows his limits, if supporters can’t cope that is their issue not his. As someone once said, ‘it is what it is’.
