Report reveals that Adidas have knocked back Ibrox kit deal

Adidas won’t be taking on the Ibrox kit deal in a curiously worded story from Footy Headlines.

When it comes to all things merchandise Footy Headlines are in a league of their own when it comes to new contracts and the release of shirts and training wear.

Since formation in 2012 by Charles Green the new club has had a troubled history when it comes to kits and merchandise with Mike Ashley one of the founding fathers.

The contract with Puma was one that was used against the club owners when Dave King and the three bears swept to power in March 2015.

It seemed to be a particular mission of the South African based ‘businessman’ to cut the deals with Puma and Sports Direct, he achieved both with a trail of litigation left in his wake.

Two years into a three year contract Hummel pulled out, recently the administrator for Elite Sports settled out of court on a £9.5m deal against the club.

Castore Sports appeared on the scene with a vision painted of two Scouse lads working out of their Nan’s spare room ready to take on Adidas and Nike in the highly competitive world of sportswear.

Virtually nothing has been heard of Tom and Phil Beahon in recent years despite the Castore Empire spreading across Europe and into international football.

There seems little reason to think that Adidas would want to get involved in a club with such a troubled back story involving kit, merchandise and retailing, while flagging up an interest Footy Headlines seem just as keen to write off the prospect of an Ibrox deal.

Glasgow Rangers’ current deal with Cstore runs until the end of the 2024-25 season, leading to speculation about a potential kit supplier change for the following campaign.

Footy Headlines has been told that Adidas has been in talks with the club. However, as of now, Footy Headlines has plausible reasons to believe that Adidas won’t be making Rangers’ 2025-26 kits.

The most likely outcome is that Rangers will remain with Castore for the 25-26 season. If the club switches kit suppliers, Puma and New Balance are the strongest candidates besides Adidas for us.

The most likely outcome is that Castore have a number of tie-in clauses in their current deal which means that a change in supplier requires certain conditions, if they aren’t met, by default the Castore deal is renewed.

With no CEO or Chairman to deal with it would be difficult to see who could be negotiating a new deal with merchandise the biggest source of income outside of ticket money and prize money.

It could be that someone has decided to link and distance Adidas with the Ibrox club to keep bears sweet ahead of an expected new deal with Celtic that is likely to see Scotland’s most successful club promoted into their elite category which provides a number of additional benefits.
