Chris Sutton is confident that Adam Idah will soon become a permanent Celtic player.
The future of the striker is close to becoming the saga of the close season, Celtic are reported to have had one bid turned down with Idah making a 33 minute appearance for Norwich on Wednesday night against Club Brugges.
Afterwards he was described as a valuable player by new Norwich boss Johannes Thorup, whether that is in terms of a transfer fee or delivering goals in a promotion push remains to be seen.
Celtic haven’t been linked with any strikers with Sutton highlighting the significance of a transfer deal last weekend as a sign that Idah is in line for a return to the club he helped to a domestic double in May.
In the Daily Record the former Celtic striker explains:
The decision to allow Oh Hyeon-gyu to leave suggests to me Celtic are confident they will get Adam Idah back – despite some of the noises from Norwich.
I’m sure Rodgers would have preferred to have him on board for the US but the good thing about Idah is they know all about him and he wouldn’t need time to settle in. Celtic can afford to wait until the deal is right and he’ll walk back into the set-up without too much fuss.
Rodgers will need another striker though as Kyogo is the only one they have got right now. Even if Idah arrives, it still leaves them at least one short with Rocco Vata also heading for the door.
The third forward role is a tough sell as game time won’t be a given. It could be back to the same formula as the keeper with either an experienced campaigner or a young prospect coming in. Regardless of the profile, Celtic do need another option up top. Rodgers has got the ball rolling in the transfer market but there is still a lot of work to be done.
Norwich face Standard Liege this afternoon with Celtic fans keeping an eye on all things Idah ahead of tonight’s match against DC United.
Kyogo Furuhashi is the only genuine striker available to Brendan Rodgers, while that remains the case hoops boss will have to be especially careful on how he uses the Japanese striker.
Daizen Maeda and Mikey Johnston are the other options for that position although both players are more at home playing on the wing and cutting inside.
