Steely was in classic form on Saturday as his pre-match optimism and delusions turned to reality after another underwhelming display from Phil Clement’s side, this time at Murrayfield
Just over 50,000 fans were inside the home of Scottish rugby, split almost 50-50 between the two clubs and paying between £45 and £90 per ticket to watch a pre-season friendly that left Steely and his fellow bears despairing earlier than usual in the season.
At his home studio Steely was full of bravado, topped up on the journey to Edinburgh as he sang about his hatred in anticipation of a season where the sole target is to stop Celtic getting to trophies 119, 120 and 121 with the hoops Going for 55 in terms of league titles.
This guy is the business. Forever the optimist at the beginning-then fades away to reality. Never stop. The asylum beckons 👏👏 pic.twitter.com/UcZhDetb52

I’m usually pretty optimistic in pre-season. Right now with that squad with out any changes after the Man United game I cannot see us winning a thing.
Highlights and comments during the match are fairly limited but he does acknowledge that Manchester United u-12s have gone 2-0 in front as another shot flashes past Super Jack Butland.
Even by the woeful standards of the 12 year journey the first half performance of Jefte must have been one of the worst, down there with the contributions of Joey Barton, Aaron Ramsey, Kevin Kyle and Scott Wright.
Jefte looked more like a competition runner up than a competition winger as he retreated and retreated without putting in a challenge, when he wasn’t caught out of possession.
Amad Dialo had a field day, the former Ibrox flop looked like Yamal as his team-mates constantly fed him the ball knowing that he had the freedom of the right wing with Jefte miles outside his comfort zone in the Cypriot League.
There were plenty of other 3 out of 10 performers to make Steely wince, Cyriel Dessers is a joke figure with the touch of a Lowland League striker but with three years left on his contract he has nothing to worry about financially.
Phil Clement wasn’t put up for post match media duties, apparently he had to rush off to attend a wedding reception in Belgium rather than answer questions about another abject performance and the stalling of transfer activity.
Birmingham City are up next in midweek, no doubt Steely will be giddy with joy as he shares his religious intolerance but the real action is racing towards him with a special Champions League night(mare) coming up soon at Hampden.
